squawken Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 I know I may be bringing up a bad word, but..... I saw a used Les Paul Classic in the store today going for $1,150. Anybody out there had any experience with them? I intentionally didn't play it, because I already have this new found allegiance to Heritage. But how does it stack up to the 150CM? Same, better, worse? The price doesn't seem too bad.
golferwave Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 I've owned a few of these and I like the 60's neck profile which is a little thinner than the Heritage standard neck carve. The pickups are powerful ceramic magnet ones and are too harsh for me so I usually changed them out. The price seems right and is less than most H-150's seem to be going for on ebay. The bottom line will be if you like it or not.
Dick Seacup Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 I've never gotten a good handle on the LP model nomenclature. Standard, Classic, Studio, Custom...ugh. Don't know anything about the Classic line, but I sure like the looks of the Custom (which I equate with the H157).
clmazza Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 I have an LP Classic and it is fine guitar... especially at that price! Golferwave nailed it .... thinner 60's neck profile and hot ceramic pups is the big difference on the classic when compared to a standard. They also have aged green inlays that generally do not boad well with some Gibby connoisseurs ;D
squawken Posted October 23, 2007 Author Posted October 23, 2007 Are those pups on the Classic more aggressive? I would like one more guitar that I can play some of the aggressive old 80's metal. My original thought was to buy another Heritage and change the pups-to what, I'm not sure.
wingnut1 Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 Don't they have a 490r and 500t in them. I think the 500t is the most aggressive pickup that Gibson puts out.
Gitfiddler Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 Since you are price shopping for a used LP Classic, check out these COMPLETED (Gibson Les Paul Classic) Ebay auctions: http://instruments.search-completed.ebay.c...orefinesearchZ1
JohnCovach Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 Lotsa red on that list, but $1150 does seem like a good price.
squawken Posted October 24, 2007 Author Posted October 24, 2007 I can probably even get it a little cheaper. They seem willing to deal. I guess I will just have to try it out.
