rockabilly69 Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Installed a Faber ABR and lightweight tailpiece (with Gibson Historic studs which were at least a 1/4" longer than the stock ones). And test fitted for the pickguard which I will put on tonight (my tool kit is at my studio). It has nicer mids now and a cleaner low end!
MartyGrass Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Very nice observation. The lower mass of the bridge and tailpiece should enhanced sustain and tonal spectrum. Most of us couldn't appreciate the difference. You have the ears to make it worthwhile.
Thundersteel Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Ditch the pickguard! Why cover up that lovely wood? <shakes head>
bolero Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 I dig it!! so does my buddy Yoda that faber bridge looks good one there, are those the stock studs/screws it's sitting on? is that the same model Kidsmoke put on his 535? I may have to hunt one of those down...
rockabilly69 Posted March 12, 2013 Author Posted March 12, 2013 I prefer the pickguard, as I use it in my playing style. And, I like nice looking wood, but, I don't think a Les Paul style guitar looks right without a guard. The Faber ABR bridge is sitting on Faber posts and thumbwheels, and next week I will change the inserts. I wanted to try the bridge first to see if I liked the tone.
rockabilly69 Posted March 12, 2013 Author Posted March 12, 2013 Okay Pickguard on... Full Shot... Hanging with the bro...

Thundersteel Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Okay Pickguard on... Oh, the horror! Just kidding--as long as you like it, that's all that counts!

I'd convinced myself I could wait on a 150, but your incessant flaunting of this thing and it's brethren has me thinking irrationally. Enough already!!!
PunkKitty Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 KS, I'd be happy to sell you that 150P if you are interested.

Once I ordered a Faber bridge and tail and it just didn't sound right, I posted a review on the Les Paul forum. A few weeks later Larry sent me new parts saying there was a bad production run, and I didn't even ask for them! The parts sounded great. And, oh yeah, just buy the damn H150 you'll thank us for it later:)

rockabilly69 Posted March 20, 2013 Author Posted March 20, 2013 I had my nut reslotted, and my frets dressed. I also went back to .010's as the new Pyramid Strings I bought seem to have the the right tension for this neck. And the Pearly Gates pickups sound better with the slightly bigger string. This guitar is really starting to sound good. I made up more new licks today than I have in quite a while!!! I am just waiting for bridge inserts, and then I will be done! Or at least until I decide whether I will tire of the Duncan pickups!
Blunote Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 I had a Pearly Gates in the bridge and an SD 59 in the neck of the H150P that I sold recently. With the selector switch in the middle position I could dial in a nice articulate tone between the two pickups. The bridge alone did seem a bit thin -even with warmer nickel 10s. You can buy some very expensive Throbacks which I'm betting you'd like. But a number of us have found the Seth Lovers fit these guitars nicely. I'd encourage you to give the a try.
JeffB Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 ...............And test fitted for the pickguard which I will put on tonight (my tool kit is at my studio). It has nicer mids now and a cleaner low end! Didnt think a pick guard would have that much affect on the mids and low end. Good to know. I like p/guards on LP type guitars as well. Just looks right.
