Newly revitalised amp day ;)

The Limey had developed a nasty little mosquito buzz when playing an E so I took some time today to tighten up all the nuts, bolts, screws and adjusted the position of a few components and wires.

She's now sounding glorious again :)

There's a bit of work coming up on the H-O-Lux tomorrow if everything works out all right. Look out for some action on that thread :)

Great photo, H.

Strange buzzes, vibrations and noises can drive you nuts on an amp. Good that you found and corrected yours quickly.

Sigh, I love your Limey, ya Limey! I agree, fantastic picture. What's your best guess on what was causing the buzz? Loose screws/nuts or the other adjustments you had to make? Curious as to what in particular you had to reposition. I'm enjoying the H-O Lux thread, too, Howard.

There was a resistor one of the power tubes that was a bit close to the chassis. I moved all the big caps apart so they can't vibrate against each other - considering putting a blob of plumbers' mastic inbetween all the relevant caps to make the gap permanent. Tightened the screws that hold the fibreboard to the chassis and put a drop of Loctite thread locking fluid on each of them.

Here's another pic :)

Best guess is the slack nut on the output jack. I'm guessing the chassis is 'tuned' to E and vibrates sufficiently on that note to loosen things and cause the mosquitoes :)

Man, H, that wood gives me a, well, let's say a warm feeling. That is a stellar cab! You did one hell-of-a good job stretching the grille cloth too. If she sound half as good as she looks, you've gotta be floating in a sea of nirvana! Have at thee!
