NOS 575 Value?

I recently made a rather low-ball offer on a NOS 575, offering $1500 out-the-door for a previously unowned 575 and and case from a dealer. It may be up to 10 years old, I don't know the serial #, but I know the guy, and he is meticulously anal about wiping down a guitar with a soft cloth if he ever lets you touch one of his guitars from behind the counter.

I'm supposed to get back with him next week to see what he has decided; He has 3 Heritages, all about the same vintage, and hasn't been able to move any of them. He is in an economically depressed community, and is nearing/is past/retirement age. As I made the offer, he asked me, for the 100th time, if I would like to make an offer on the whole store. Not a chance in Hell..... I've left a little bit of room, but I know a 575 won't be my #1; what is fair for him/me?

Thinning the heard?

That would be herd, insurance junkie.

Depends on the guitar. Nice flame? Inlays? Binding? Color?

I would say that's a good price on a new guitar

Will it have a warranty, that would be a good price.

Used ie no factory warranty, that's still not a bad price for a nice example. I paid 1650.00 for mine new.. At Elderly, 14 years ago.

Lance, it's a lousy pic of a FEW guitars, but it's sunburst-y, not sure even if it's OSB or what, no bling, dots. No flame to speak of. Warranty? I don't know if it would be honored on this old of a guitar, but I'm not really worried about a 1 year warranty. Here it is, along with an equally old 535 and 140. I honestly thought about making him a reasonable offer on all three. I need help...

A good deal is only truly a good deal if it's something you will use -- e.g. it doesn't matter how much you save on something if you don't have the time, etc to enjoy it. Another way to look it is this -- any money you spend on a particular guitar is money you can't spend on some other guitar. So, maybe evaluate it by considering those things.

It would be interesting to know if he was accepting offers on the low end -- if he does, you may want to share his number if you don't buy all three.

I like the guy, but he is a stubborn, uber-opinionated hot-headed red head turned gray that packs a 9MM pistol under his shop apron. We've had many interesting conversations when I've gone in to just chat "for a minute" that have turned into over an hour, running the gamut from investments to politics to slot machine manufacturers (he LOVES to gamble). He has told me on more than one occasion that he'll "burn 'em before he'll GIVE them away...." I expect he will counter-offer at least $200 higher, which would give me pause. Not that a NOS 575 wouldn't be worth it, but maybe just not to me, as, I mentioned, it wouldn't be my #1 guitar. We'll see. He is NOT a low-ball appreciating kind of guy, I can tell you that.

$1500 is a fair current day market offer for a 575. I've acquired them for less, and have seen some sell for less than what I paid. However, as you well know, no two guitars are alike, so the only thing that's relevant is what you feel this 575 is worth to you.

Please pass along any tips on picking the right slot machine.
