PunkKitty Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 I have a chance to pick up this 2000 H535. Not that I need it. That's not the question here. It has some cracks that I'm told are only finish cracks. I'm looking for some input from you all. If I don't like it, I can return it with minimal hassle. Here are pics. What would you consider a fair value for this?
Blunote Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 It looks like the crack extends from the rim of one side of the neck right through to the other. If I'm right and it is a crack in the wood itself, it seems like the neck would have to come off to properly glue the wood together. That's more that I'd be willing to do on a newly purchased guitar. I think I'd pass on this one.
Millennium Maestro Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 PK, I have a goldtop that I purchased with the same cracks in the cutaway. It is a monster guitar by far, I hope I never have to part with it... the neck is strong and stable! That is my addition!
PunkKitty Posted March 24, 2013 Author Posted March 24, 2013 From what I've been told, it's a great player and the neck is stable. Supposedly they are only finish cracks.
DetroitBlues Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 I'd think its fine, but use it to your advantage to get a lower price. Not sure what they are asking, but maybe $1000 or less? Uneducated guess anyway... Besides, the neck is glued into the center block, not be rims. If it was a 530, I'd be worried.
Genericmusic Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 I think this guitar was written about in another thread. If you can't get your hands on it to examine the crack I personally would walk away.
bolero Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 can you get a couple pictures of the heel, from the back?
LucSulla Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 Someone got it for $900 today. If anyone here got it, I sincerely hope it really is just cosmetic and it turns out to be a stellar deal for you. It very well could be. The cracks scared me a bit.
JAM Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 The H-535 is an amazing Axe !! Based on the pics posted here however, I agree with those saying $1k or less. There doesn't seem to be any World Shortage of used H-535's. Don't pay Premium $$ ... This one should be seriously discounted. If not, RUN... don't walk away !! cheers! Jim
mark555 Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 if in doubt, do without..... it would be interesting to send the pictures to the guys at the factory and ask their opinion, I am sure that they would have some knowledge about this.
PunkKitty Posted March 24, 2013 Author Posted March 24, 2013 That is the one from the GC in Albany. I cancelled the order so it should be available again. It's not like I need it anyway.
goSteelers Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 This guitar is now at a GC in Miami -- so someone who lives there purchased it, and once they saw it, returned it to their local GC. I called them about it and they said that the crack is not only in the rim, but in the neck as well -- so perhaps the Albany guys were not being completely accurate in their description. Someone must have put forward pressure on the back of the neck while holding the body still, or something like that. Considering the cost of repairing something that extensive, I would guess that it's value is very low at this point -- perhaps not much more than the value of the hardware and electronics. Sad.
LucSulla Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 They told me it had a minor crack in the neck when I called the Albany store a couple of weeks ago. I didn't mention it here because I guess I just didn't think about it after seeing the pics of the body cracks. They kind of undersold those in their description of the body cracks, so even after PK returned it, I wasn't interested.
