banway12 Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 What does it mean when the pick ups are HRW? Is it hand wired? Thanks so much
Blunote Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 HRW stands for "Heritage Ren Wall" and refer to a proprietary Heritage pickup that Ren Wall developed. They were availabe as an upgrade from the standard Schallars and SD 59s and were standard on some of Heritages deluxe models. Unfortunately, they are no longer offered.
tsp17 Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 Super articulate pickups. among the best. i miss mine. in the right guitar there is nothing better.
High Flying Bird Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 I doubt they are hand made. Ren probably has a machine to shave his face. Not computer operated........ They have things in the Heritage factory that we don't really know about. I suspect an old winder is sitting in a corner up stairs with Schaller parts about it. I had a set of HRW's and sold them. For me they are not what I wanted out of my 535. Good pups but I like the SD Phat Cats much better.
yoslate Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 What does it mean when the pick ups are HRW? Is it hand wired? Thanks so much It means that, before those pickups left Ren's bench, somewhere, a virgin leapt into a volcano....
chico Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 interestingly, the value has gone up, someone here posted they saw a pair go for 300+ bucks the other day. I love them in my Millies.
Blunote Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 It means that, before those pickups left Ren's bench, somewhere, a virgin leapt into a volcano.... I hadn't thought of that, but... yeah, you're probably right. It was a set of HRWs that first spoke to me and triggered the purchase of my first electric guitar.
drfie Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 They have things in the Heritage factory that we don't really know about. "There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, Than are dreamt of in your philosophy." mystique enhances the legend.
banway12 Posted March 28, 2013 Author Posted March 28, 2013 Very cool. Thanks so much. I love the mythology. I own three of the least successful gibsons (sst, blues ridge acoustic, and a sonex) and am ready to move on to a heritage.
tbonesullivan Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 They are great pickups. Basically they were schaller pickups modified by Ren Wall. What exactly he did to them, who knows. I would guess they were rewound, and possibly had the magnets swapped out, etc.
HANGAR18 Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 Does anyone know if the new H-Kazoo pickups which Ren Wall invented can be purchased separately or do you need to order a brand new guitar and have them installed at the factory?
Guest HRB853370 Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 Very cool. Thanks so much. I love the mythology. I own three of the least successful gibsons (sst, blues ridge acoustic, and a sonex) and am ready to move on to a heritage. Folklore, legend, mystique, all the things that always surround something that is longer available. Its interesting to note that there was very little hoopla about them when they were originally offered. Great sounding, yes, but so are many other brands of pickups. I guess I need to play my 555 more often, it has the little black dot on the toggle switch!

TalismanRich Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 I know the secret that Ren put into the stock Schallers. \
