Yooper Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 Man. it's hard enough to see how she does, let along how he does it.
bolero Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 man, that was intense I felt like I just drank 10 cups of coffee after watching it...jitters
hinesarchtop Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 Hahaha........that was awesome. I love the improvisational spirit of Jazz.
tsp17 Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 two really super players. As i said in a separate thread i recommend Mimi's new CD highly if you like solo jazz guitar.
schundog Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 Good Grief, they are both fantastic. Mimi looked like she was playing with her thumb a lot in there, and I have never seen, or at least never noticed, a Bass player pluck the strings right by where he is fretting the notes like Clark does here. Neat clip.

Neat clip. Brian, that's Stanley Jordan, not Stanley Clark, and he's playing guitar, not bass. He can play lines and comp with chords at the same time because he's fretting with both hands. He's been around a while now, and he's incredible! One of the reasons he can do this is because the guitar is tuned in fourths: E-A-D-G-C-F. He can play guitar and piano at the same time. Not a freak show, he's an incredibly talented, Princeton educated musician. He's played with everybody.

I Wiki'ed them both, thinking Clark must be much older than Jordan, too, but they are only 8 years apart, which surprised me. Another confession regarding my unbounded ignorance; At the last PSP, I was talking to 2-time attendee and friend of NoNameBand, Dr. Wooten. He has attended along with his son, who has joined us on the bridge with his acoustic. I couldn't remember Dr. Wooten's first name, and, after a few hops-filled beverages, asked the good, whiter-than-white Dr, "I'm sorry, what was your first name? Victor?!" He got a good laugh out of that one.
jazzpicker Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 I love solo jazz guitar but wish I could play it better. This is the first time I've seen Stanley Jordan in a long time, I have no idea how he plays so well with both hands on the fretboard. I'm getting too old to learn new ways to play the guitar!
