for me the unbeatable pups are PRS 57/08s or the bit hotter 59/09s.

Wow that's quite the amp there!! I tend to like the lower output pickups like Seth's.PAF Tone for me...But I'm an old hillbilly!! Good Luck in your search!!

I have a set of BG Lizards that I really like. I also have a set of Rose Californias with an overwound bridge pickup. I swapped the magnets on that set to alnico 4. They sound fantastic.

Best pups for a H150?

You're just setting us up for endless banter and opinion.

Okay, I'll bite.

Schallers.

No wait, Seth Lovers.

Oops. P-Rails.

Okay. What's the correct answer?

Haha..........SOOOOO subjective. It's hard to beat a set of Burstbucker #1 and # 2 for the money if you're playing blues and rock. If you get into the metal high gain zone............I dunno

I'm an old stick in the mud who tends to buy a guitar because I like the pickups that are in it..The only time I tried to change that was when I gave into my bandmates incessant bitching about the noise of my strat pickups..I bought some vintage noiseless pickups for it, but I hated them..So I decided that I bought the guitar for me and not for them, and I just told em to hold their water..I also just use the Strat on songs without overdrive, so everyone is happy..(Relatively) LOL :icon_sunny:

Yes. And what's the best guitar? Who's the best guitar player? What's the best song? Probably half as many answers as there are ears.

Pay no attention to me. I'm just jealous because I don't have a 150. We all seem to be reaching for different sounds. To each his own discoveries. I've yet to play a 150, or even hear a 150 in the same room, so when that happens, a new door shall open for me.

I would choose P-90's for my first 150 since I have a '57 LP reissue. I am happy with the humbucker tone, and would like to add the P-90 sounds.

I am surprised you didn't toss in Aluminumtones in your list!

My answer is, whatever pleases your own ears are the best!

All of these pickups do the PAF vintage thing for me...

Seymour Duncan - Custom Shop Peter Greens with nonreversed magnet option (unless you love Peter Green). My favorite!!!

Seymour Duncan - Slash model - I love these pickups, they punch my amps in a most delightful way, and are reasonably priced.

David Plummer - Pagey Pure Handwounds - sound like the guy they were named after!

Tom Short - Marc Ford Humbuckers - this guy will custom build what you want, but the Marc Fords are very good!

Throbak - SLE101 MXV - juicy rich of harmonics and great microphonic character, very expensive!!!

You actually need 3 or 4 150s/157s because there are a lot of pickup combos that are cool in them. :-p

I love the 59s in my GT, and I love the Slashes in my 157. I have a LPC that has a JB in the bridge and a Pearly Gates in the neck that I also love. They each have a sound, and I totally dig walking in and thinking, "I'm kind of in the mood for some midrangey honk - my GT does that well. No, I think I actually want a little bite, so it's the 157. No, I just want to play old Ozzy tunes tonight, on to the LPC."

I love screwing around with pups and tubes. It's such a comparatively cheap way to get new sounds.

DITTO what he said

Triple!!!!

The ONLY person I know that didn't like Throbaks...... was the person that never tried them. Ask for the HOC 20% discount and they are $406 shipped to your door. Expensive??? Yes, but for $100 more than other sets in a month you will wonder why all your guitars don't have Throbaks in them!!!!

A few weeks ago I would have said Seth Lovers but Ive changed my mind. I now think 59s are a good p/up in a H150.

I never got along with the PRS 5708's. I had quite a few sets and sold them all.

I've found that with a great sounding amp, most pickups in a 150 can produce some great tones. I've got a BB1/ Seth Lover combo in my favorite ... SD '59's in another, it rocks..... a 59/ JB combo in another that is a hot setup..... and I must say that the Sheptone PAF's in my 157 are exceptional .

Some of the other pickups I like in Les Pauls are 57 classics or old T-Tops...

I like having different pickups in different guitars , so that each guitar has a different personality when you play it...

I have different pups in all my guitars, and I tend to like them all! that being said I do have two favorites one is a early 80's dimarzio super distortion bridge pup that I have in my mini v, the other is a dimarzio classic paf bridge that is in my stat deluxe.

That's what is in my 140..... an old set of DiMarzio PAF at neck and Super Distortion at the bridge. ..... made to rock, but surprisingly versatile.
