RhoadsScholar Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 Saw a guy playing through one of these at a local jam and I was impressed/curious to say the least. No one seems to carry these BandMaster VM amps but man did it sound good. As I was combing youtube this morning, Came across this Greg Koch demo (he is da man) and this is his best stand up routine ever. Not giving up on the Mustang III which has been my go to amp these days, but wanted to try out something different. This demo is great and has some FUNNY STUFF (still laughing)
yoslate Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 I want some of what he had for breakfast.... Monster player! Bottomless bag of licks. Greg could plug into the phone and make it sound fabulous. Really entertaining demo! "Rockin' without impaling people...."

GuitArtMan Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 I didn't even have to open the post to know that it would either be Greg Koch or Phil X.
Steiner Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 The Kochmeister is a hoot. Seriously funny. Nice find RhoadsS
JeffB Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 I saw him just recently. Hes got this stuff down pat. What you see in the vids is what you get in real time. Funny and full of razor sharp off the cuff detours and remarks. My cheeks hurt at one stage. Have to be honest, it wears you out after a while. I left half way through and watched a local cover band. I needed to hear singing. The band Greg was playing with were great. Top notch players. It seemed wrong to leave but I can only take so much guitar. Also the distinct lack of female patronage and over representation of middle aged men was weirding me out.
yoslate Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 Also the distinct lack of female patronage and over representation of middle aged men was weirding me out. +3.14159265359 Ditto that, my last visit to Memphis, Beale....

y2kc Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 Greg is from up north in the Milwaukee area and when I see him I just walk away shaking my head and wondering why I even try. What a vocabulary! This guy is sharp, y2kc
Steiner Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 +3.14159265359 Ditto that, my last visit to Memphis, Beale.... How does one, so readily adept in the English language, ever identify the number of times a radius fits into the circumference to 11 places past the decimal? As a teacher, I would think you'd be more familiar with the napierian log base e: 2.7182818284. Being the favorite grade (determined empirically by myself) and the sound heard every Friday by my teachers (especially the English teachers) Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
bolero Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 "Also the distinct lack of female patronage and over representation of middle aged men was weirding me out." haha...well on the flip side to that, i was on the train home from work one night and all of a sudden the cars started filling up with dressed-to-the-9's girls, women, gaggles of them laughing and frolicking, excited & done up....and every stop closer to Toronto on poured more...it was really weirding me out lol I finally figured out Rihanna was playing in town ...I didn't see ANY representation of middle aged men
schundog Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 Greg did a workshop at a Springfield, IL, independent music store probably 8 years ago, and I attended. He was doing a bunch of these workshops for Hal Leonard to help promote his then-new series of guitar instruction books. I just wanted to hear the guy. I got there early, and got to talk to him. I'm 6'3", and had to crane my neck back to look at the guy; he's like 6'8", which is why a Strat or Tele look like ukuleles on him, haha. Nice, funny guy. Yeah, the schtick can get old after a bit, but you've gotta love a guy who has fun being a smart-ass, and gets paid to do it. Fender was smart enough to tag him to do demos for them, and I'll bet he's sold a lot of gear for them. He played his set for the "crowd" of 20-30 people sitting in the piano showroom portion of this music store through a then-newish Cyber-Twin and an old (I thought) Tele. I asked him what year it was, and he said it was brand new. He wasn't joking, it was a Custom Shop Relic. Of course, he sounded great. If you don't dig his sense of humor, here's a clip with hardly any talking. Man, can he bring it...
yoslate Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 How does one, so readily adept in the English language, ever identify the number of times a radius fits into the circumference to 11 places past the decimal? Dunno.... Just lucky, I guess?

H Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 Maybe it's because I'm English.... This one made me laugh. And I found out lots about the amps demoed with various guitar types.
schundog Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 Same here. Both horribly loud and obnoxious. Well, I can assure you, I am EQUALLY if not more so horribly loud and obnoxious as either of these guys with, in my ever so humble opinion great senses of humor. Unfortunately, I have none of their over-the-top talent, not one iota's worth.
tbp0701 Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 I'm another fan of Greg Koch. I have one of his instructional DVDs, as well, and think he's as great at teaching as he is funny. By the way, he's done several demos for Wildwood Guitars. I found it entertaining to see what direction he takes with different guitars. As part of that, he has one where he talks about playing with les Paul.
