gpuma Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 I am playing with the idea of replacing the stock Shallers pick up I have on the Heritage Little One with P-Rails.I have a couple of questions:1) do they fit?2) the little one electronics consists of 2 volumes. Each pot is push/pull to spilt coils. How can you control p-rails with such a config? Should I just forget about it and get their dedicated pickup rings?3) is it possible to install chrome covers?
SouthpawGuy Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 P-Rails will fit any standard humbucker route. The easiest way to get them wired is to use the triple shot rings, you can have up to 4 wiring choices then for each pickup. Covers will not fit P-Rails.
mars_hall Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 I am of the opinion that you try to balance out the natural tonal characteristics of the guitar with the pickup's designed frequency curve, which is usually listed on the manufacturer's website.. You know what is in the guitar to begin with and you can judge the degree of brightness/darkness that you are hearing and is already there with that combination. If the guitar is small, uses a large chunk of bright tonewood such as maple, or for whatever reason is naturally bright, you use a darker pickup to compensate and bring the output back into tonal balance. The same goes in the other direction. So assess what you have in the beginning and move from there. The penalty is spending money to find you have an overly bright or dark guitar. 1) Probably fit2) Triple-shot or give up a combination3) Don't think so
smokedtires Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 They are the same size as a standard humbucker. With the push/pull pots, you should be all set.
brentrocks Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 the little one cotrol cavity is very small....not much room to solider
gpuma Posted April 7, 2013 Author Posted April 7, 2013 the little one cotrol cavity is very small....not much room to solider I know but would you think that a professional would not do it? Maybe this is something I need to check...
SouthpawGuy Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 Check out the Duncan video demo on how to install the triple shot rings A lot of the wiring is done at the mounting rings, not in the control cavity
brentrocks Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 I have done the triple shot rings and they are quite easy.

brentrocks Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 Yes and I'm a member of the CSFS Club Can't solder for ... I think it was your guitar I did those on?
SouthpawGuy Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 Yes the ASAT Deluxe I think. Actually that guitar had a single volume and tone control with a mini switch to split the original humbuckers. It now has P-Rails and Triple shots. The mini switch is still there but not connected.
SouthpawGuy Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 Which inspired this 170 with P-Rails Both the video above and my 170 were done before the triple shots were released. The middle mini switch on mine is not connected, the two other two way switches were replaced with three way switches so I have series / rail and P-90 for each pickup. No parallel option with this setup which is actually a very useful tone, it's lower in output than series and very clear but still humbucking. The single coil tone ( rail) in the 170 is nothing special, not surprisingly the rail tone is a lot more convincing in the ASAT pictured above.
