JAM Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 Hey Everyone ! Thinking of pulling the trigger on a Peavey Delta Blues 115 when I get back from New Orleans in early May. I've researched it and played it and I like what it is... especially at it's price point. But, since one can't easily demo all that is out there, are there any suggestions on alternatives in the same price point, features, etc. ? Is there any major reason not to go with this amp..?? TIA ! Cheers! Jim
Guest HRB853370 Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 Not in my book. I have the 2x10 and its awesome. I probably would have bought the 1x15 if I could have found it new at the price of $480 that I paid for my 2x10, but I have no regrets, you should not either. They are not too heavy to move, and they have plenty of raw power. They stay clean too if you want them to be. The dirty channel is great, no need for an OD unless you want to boost the power. Good Luck!
campfire Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 I've been looking at those, too. A well known jazz guitarist friend of mine uses one with a Custom made H-555 and it sounds really good. I have heard from some other people about reliability issues. I say GO FOR IT, and report back to us!

My experience with everything made by Peavey is they are built for the road, truly players gear. They take alot of abuse and keep working. I like the fact that there aren't many production amp manufacturers left that build right here in the good ole USA anymore. Peavey has not sold out to building overseas (yet, thankfully).
JAM Posted April 8, 2013 Author Posted April 8, 2013 I've been looking at those, too. A well known jazz guitarist friend of mine uses one with a Custom made H-555 and it sounds really good. I have heard from some other people about reliability issues. I say GO FOR IT, and report back to us! Yes... I heard of the reliability issues too. My research indicated two things: The stock glass was not the best... and the valves were not encased and subject to 'rattle'. But this was on those amps produced in the '90s. The amps made today supposedly use 'better' valves, and these are now 'caged' solving the rattle issue. Cheers! Jim
Gitfiddler Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 Go for it. It has great cleans, takes pedals well, and sounds amazing for its price point. I upgraded mine with JJ's and never looked back. Some players swap out the speaker, but I have no idea why. The Peavey Sheffield 15" sounds perfect in that box. I used mine for cleans (mostly R&B, Jazz and a little Rock). Only reason I sold it was to fund a Heritage Patriot amp.
JAM Posted April 8, 2013 Author Posted April 8, 2013 One other thing I heard... It was recommended that the amp would benefit from a vintage Jensen -- either a C15P or C15N (ceramic) or a P15P or P15N (alnico). But that's an 'upgrade' which need not be done immediately. I can bide my time, keep an eye out for sales or auctions, and get to it a few years down the road. I can get one w/ optional footswitch out-the-door for $560 at my local go-to guitar store because of $100 Gift Card they gave me for referring a guy who bought two guitars from them. Unless someone raises a Big Red Flag, I think I'm gonna do it ! Cheers! Jim

My years have no problems with the Blue Marvels (which I have heard are made by Eminence for Peavey). Go for it!!
rockabilly69 Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 My buddy uses that exact version for his National Reso Electric, he says he loves it.
Thundersteel Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 Peavey has not sold out to building overseas (yet, thankfully). Hmmm...my Peavey amp says "Made in China" on the back!

I'm not yet sophisticated enough to discern much difference, if any between one speaker or another, especially if they're both top knotch. I'm sure I'll be happy with it in stock condition for quite some time into the future! Cheers!
Joe Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 Hmmm...my Peavey amp says "Made in China" on the back! I have a Delta Blues 115 and a Classic 50/410. Both are made in USA and are great amps. I'm not sure about all Peavey lines but some are made in China.

Thundersteel Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 My Vypyr 30 is made overseas. OK, it is a modeling amp, but it has tons of effects, and has a MP3 player input, as well as a headphone output. It gets used more than my other amps, actually.

TalismanRich Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 When I played at the blues jam with Slammer, I didn't really even look at the amp. It was a case of "plug in and go". I know is sounded good with my 140, and very "familiar". I didn't even try the drive channel. Afterwards, looking at the pictures, I realized it was a Delta Blues. That makes it a "kissing cousin" to my Classic 30. My Classic 30 was sitting in about 14 inches of water a few years back. I dried it out, pulled the reverb bag and got it all cleaned out. Other than the covering pealing back because of the glue being washed out, there was no damage. BTW, I put a Toms Tube Tamer on mine to cure the rattle of the EL84s. It seems to be a common problem with EL84 combos where the tubes are placed so close to the speaker, unless the tubes are secured somehow.
DetroitBlues Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 I've had a couple Peaveys. I had a couple Chinese made Valveking's which had reliability issues. I also had the Delta Blues which was great amp, USA made. No issues. It was my gig amp, but it was a large deep cab that was heavy and bulky to lug around. It's tone was sweet. No complaints there. I used a H140, Epi Dot Deluxe LE, and a Stratocaster. Not a bad tone to be had. I found a used for $300. Not bad at all.
AP515 Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 I've had the Delta Blues 1x15 and I've had the Classic 30 1x12. A friend of mine has the Classic 50 2x12. All of them sounded great and have been reliable. I did hear the "tube rattle" from the Classic 30, but not the Delta Blues. Just get it.

schundog Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 I also have a Tom's Tube Tamer on my Classic 30; it did the trick; no more rattle. I don't think you can go wrong with a Classic 30/50 or a Delta Blues. Good Luck!
