Questions about Vox AC15C1

Hi guys and gals. Last summer I purchased a brand new Fender Hot Rod Deluxe III. When I brought it home, it didn't do "it" for me. Had that coulda, shoulda, woulda feeling afterward. Although I get some nice "Fender cleans" out of it, I guess it just isn't something I'm going to use much. I typically play my H157 Ultra with 59s through my Peavey Delta Blues and absolutely LOVE that amp/guit/PU combination. Anyway, I have a guy that wants to trade me his Vox AC15C1, also about 6 months old, for my Fender. I honestly have never played VOX amps, but have often heard great things. What should I know about this amp? Positives, negatives? I play hard rock, metal, blues mostly. Any help is much appreciated!

I'm not sure the Vox is the amp for you. If you're looking for that 60s jangle, they're great. And you can get Brian May overdrive as well. But metal and/or blues--I'm not so sure. A good little amp for those styles is the Marshall DSL combo w/ one 12.

Metal probably not, but Rory Gallagher sounded effin' great playing the blues through an AC30.

Yeah, I know, and Ted Nugent plays a Byrdland. It just goes to show that the gear is not the most important thing. I have an AC30 and an AC15 and both are great amps, especially with the Celestion Blue speakers. The AC 30 is probably my favorite amp. But when I'm doing rock that requires a fair amount of distortion, I really like the Marshall DSL, though I use the half stack, not the combo. That DSL combo is a sweet little amp though.

I really appreciate the advice guys. Made the deal. Swapping on Saturday. I'm always a geek for new gear, so I'll be anxious to share the results!

I've rather enjoyed the tone of a AC15 or AC30. I found the handwired series sounds much, much better. But maybe that's just the handwired tone snob in me thinking that....

Brought home the Vox and absolutely love it. Lots of different capabilities with this bad boy! I love how different sounds bring out songs you would have never thought of playing otherwise.

The Vox AC15 and 30 are my fav amps. I keep my AC30C1 at home. Loaned the AC15C1 to a bud. And run my Mesa TA on the AC15 side. With the right stuff on the floor you can cover a lot of territory with that Vox.

I'm glad you like it. I have a Vox AC15C1 that I bought brand new. I like mine but it won't do face melting distortion, and I knew that before I bought it. I bought it to have something small and clean sounding with some groovy vintage tones available on demand. If I ever wanted more distortion out of it, I have a mental note in my head to buy a RAT pedal.

Makes you wonder how come Clapton disliked them so much...

Beatles sorta liked 'em for a while. Brian May still likes them. I seriously don't care what Clapton thinks about anything. Never been an over the top fanboy for him. Altho' I did enjoy some of his music when he was in bands. Then again, I wonder how close the CC's actually are to a circa: 60s Vox. I've only played mine. And it's a dandy!
