yuominae Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 Just made an offer on this 535: http://www.ebay.com/itm/360612750754 The offer got accepted and now I just noticed something I should probably have seen before making the offer, but didn't... The serial number on the back of the headstock is written by hand. My used 535, which will be sold doesn't have that. Is this something to be worried about? The guitar is described as brand new, not a factory second and not flawed. It doesn't say as much, but because it doesn't say it, means I can assume it is a regular brand new instrument. Can anybody tell me if the handwritten serial is legit?
skydog52 Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 That's legit. Heritage is signing them by hand now.
yuominae Posted April 12, 2013 Author Posted April 12, 2013 Wow, can't believe my google search didn't turn up that vid. Thanks guys, that's good to know!

Billgelder Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 wow, interesting. God love Marv. by the way, the olive green H150... WHO ORDERED IT?? she's a beaut. Jay Wolfe ordered it for a customer, he wanted to match his strat.
PrairieDude Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 I was wondering the same thing about those serial numbers. There's a new H150CM on EBay now with a similar looking serial number. I think it's the same handwriting, too. I'm glad to know it's legit.
pegleg32 Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 Leave it to Fred to find the answers to your questions. Good job Fred.
FredZepp Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 Wonder why they went to handwritten SNs? The story was that handmade instruments deserve handwritten serial numbers. ...... Also.. the stamped ones were often blurry and difficult to read.
2bornot2bop Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 Thanks for posting that vid! I dug the mint julip and the powder blue metallic 535 was it? Man the binding really pops against that light blue shade...my cup of t-e-a!
LucSulla Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 This thread makes me regret having three of these guitars. I definitely need 4... or 5... or... I really hate the term "mojo," but the bit of history you get when you buy one of these guitars sure does make them a little more special, particularly if you are a bit sentimental like me. If they just made explorer style guitars, particularly since Hamer is gone, that would definitely scratch the most recent itch.
Hfan Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 The story was that handmade instruments deserve handwritten serial numbers. ...... Also.. the stamped ones were often blurry and difficult to read. I suspect the pre sharpie models will hold their value better
Billgelder Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 I was told they dropped the stamp and broke it.
Billgelder Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 Ed Berrios with his Band random Play, with his Surf Green, white bindings & Bonamassa Duncans. Heritage H150CM Thought you all would like to see the guitar in action.
