2bornot2bop Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 much like a SE but with a Gretsch style neck. very sweet tone on this guitar, and the acoustic tone almost rivals that of my SKB.
Genericmusic Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 I like it. If she sounds half as good as she looks you have a sweetheart worth holding onto.
MartyGrass Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 I'm not sure what a Gretsch neck is. I have owned my fair share of Gretsches. If I had to generalize, it felt like a medium D Heritage neck on most of them. It doesn't get better.
2bornot2bop Posted April 13, 2013 Author Posted April 13, 2013 Well, the neck is a 3 piece as opposed to the normal 5 piece neck standard on the SE. The neck is very comfortable to play. The pup performs like a Heritage #3. The guitar being built in '96 it likely is.
MartyGrass Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 Oh, I get it. There is no advantage in going to a five piece neck anyway as far as I can tell. A two piece neck adds to the stability. Three pieces looks nicer but I doubt it's much more stable. Five pieces must be for show. Well, the neck is a 3 piece as opposed to the normal 5 piece neck standard on the SE. hinesarchtop Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 I dug up my Gretsch catalogue with this model in it and it's from 1992. There was a guy in California that had one for sale years ago for quite an attractive price. Coulda shoulda woulda.............
hinesarchtop Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 I tried to post a pic of the catalogue, but my photo bucket's acting weird since they revamped it. Nice score. So it's not as acoustic as your SKB?

So it's not as acoustic as your SKB? I'd love to see that catalogue pic! Well, the SKB is an exceptional guitar to my ears. Even though it has a set pup acoustically its just a dream as well. Electrically, the hand wound KA gives it the edge....but it's fun finally playing an acoustic SE if only in style!
hinesarchtop Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 Greg, What amp are you using with these beauties? Also, tell us about feedback issues if any.
Keith7940236 Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 I never thought that I'd say this but Greg, you've got a lovely pair..........................of Guitars!
2bornot2bop Posted April 14, 2013 Author Posted April 14, 2013 Greg, What amp are you using with these beauties? Also, tell us about feedback issues if any. I'm mainly using a Headstrong Verbovibe, a '63 Brown Reverb remake by Wayne Jones out in California. Nice amp...lush and warm...I sold my Twin for it...a bit big for my humble room, but amazingly no feedback issues....and because my audio room is also my guitar room I'm forced to sit closer to the amp than I'd like, but so amazingly so far there's been zero feedback issues with any guitar I've used in this room....Same with my other amp, a DRRI...what can I say, I'm livin' a charmed life knock on PINE wood!
Gitfiddler Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 Greg, I dig your tasteful photos almost as much as your amazing instruments! I'd sure like to hear that Headstrong in a nice jazz club.

That's some serious looking hifi gear! Three turntables... these days you'd be lucky to find one in most homes. Classic images on the wall too.

Classic images on the wall too. Thanks! No there's 6 TTs. 3 are down below out of sight. Actually, among audiophiles, the TT never left for we've known for decades that vinyl provides far more dynamics and musicality than digital. Not even close. And actually it has been a recent discovery of non audiophiles in recent years who are learning just how good vinyl truly is compared to digital...that new enthusiasm has created a resurgence in vinyl...for newbs, for several years now...really....actually.

BTW...I have to give an assist to member BigBob who located the Verbrovibe at his GC and was kind enuf to post the info on my WTB post here. Another member comes thru agin'! Thx BigBob!
Ned Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 Does your SKB have a floater? Somehow I thought the standard config was with two set HRWs. Mighty fine. Are you down to two guitars at this point? I can see how this could happen. Pretty

Are you down to two guitars at this point? I can see how this could happen. Pretty Hey Ned, I've seen a half dozen SKB's with double HB's. Marty owned one...seems his had HRW's? I jumped on the SKB because first it possessed a single set pup, and 2nd it was finished in OSB, my old school favorite. I've only seen one other SKB with a single set pup, and it was finished in a nice Chestnut SB. Here's that guitar: Sorry I missed that one! Yep, down to 2. And truly one more than I need. Here's a better view of the handwound KA on the SKB. Heritage built the guitar with an SD '59, which I really liked a lot, but I'd owned the KA in several previous guitars and knew it was THE one to use....I hate being right!

Indeed - I still have my Alphason Sonata TT/Xenon arm with an Ortofon MC25FL cartridge, though I have to confess these days I mainly listen to CD.
hinesarchtop Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 Let's see the back views of these bog boy's. I love the sound of vinyl too. While it may not be high end, I enjoy my old Jazz albums on my trust tube console. It has EL84's.
