mintybaws Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Have the chance to purchase a 1988 H535, could any7one tell me the specs of this guitar in particular what pups were in it as standard. Is that a reasonable price (all things American are more expensive here in Ireland in particulare geetars) http://www.adverts.ie/electric-guitars/the-heritage-h-535/2933438 Thanks in advance.
chico Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 I believe that is a Prospect, not a H535. 2 screws on either sides of pickups indicates Schallers, which were commonly installed then.
chico Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 on second look I think I'm in error. the one pic horns made it look like a prospect (the mickey mouse ears), but upon further review, it looks like a 535. and they came with Schallers back then, as I described in my first erroneous post great instrument, that one is a looker. Has the typical hardware installed back then too, bridge-tailpiece. appears to be antique burst. if you buy it, promise you'll cut off those excess strings (lol) at the tuners. welcome to hoc
JAM Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Well, at 1,500 Euros ($1,963.00 in USD), it is certainly at the upper end of the price range, especially for the flaws noted in the pic. That could be a seller ploy to allow for wiggle room. Here in the states, that guitar would likely be around $1,200-$1,300 tops. Given the currency and price differences, I'd likely offer him 1,200 Euros and go from there, but no higher than 1,300. Not certain, but believe pups are schaller '59 humbuckers. cheers! Jim
Hfan Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Southpawguy lives in your neck of the woods, maybe he'll weigh in...
Blunote Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 That's probably a fair price in Europe. Musical instruments are a lot more expensive there than in the US.
H Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 That's probably a fair price in Europe. Musical instruments are a lot more expensive there than in the US. Actually, I'd consider that an expensive 535. I paid a lot less than that for my early 2000s 535 which is also ASB. Even taking the EUR/GBP exchange rate into account, it's still expensive.
SouthpawGuy Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 1500 euro with non original case is a bit steep. Can't be very many of them in the country. Also bear in mind you might not like the pickups or the hardware, I had both replaced on my 535 and a Prospect. I'd also make sure it's not a factory second, i.e. there is no "2" above the serial number.

SouthpawGuy Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 We heard a rumour that only left handed Heritage guitars get shipped to Ireland! Yes that's true Slammer. And only lefty drumsticks too ! Plus every garden has one of these at the bottom .....

When I was living in Switzerland, it was a bit of a shock to see how much higher guitars sold for compared to the U.S.

When I was living in Switzerland, it was a bit of a shock to see how much higher guitars sold for compared to the U.S. Items from outside the EU are usually subject to VAT (a sort of sales tax) at 20% and import duties of around 8 - 10%. The VAT is applied to the item price PLUS the shipping price. Sucks, eh?
yuominae Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Saying this as someone who got done over many times buying guitars from sellers with blurry pics in Japan: The pics are too blurry. It's impossible to tell the true state of the guitar from them. If you really want it, get the seller to send you good quality photos first. And yes, if you take into account how much import tax you'd pay for a guitar from the US, this could be attractive, but you could probably get one in better condition from the US for the same price with tax.
