reif Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 In my continuing search for the perfect semi (does it exist?),I drove about 2.5 hrs down to Sebastian Inlet Fl yesterday and I came home with this beauty. It has some age, I think its a 1995 and some evidence to show it.(but not bad at all) As you can see from the dot on the switch, it has HRWs and the guitar sounds incredible. Now my questions. In the 2nd pic you can see the bridge/tail they are kinda high and worn. The action is a little high but the intonation is very good. I'm thinking of replacing them with TonePros. What specifics do I need to look for regarding size measure etc? Will these do? http://www.ebay.com/itm/200913959725?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 Thank in advance. More pics when I get it straightened out and cleaned up. David
kidsmoke Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 Reif, beautiful Prospect, and with HRW's, great score! I recently replaced all the tail hardware on my Heritage semi (535) I went with a Faber Tone Lock Master Kit. Available from only one source in the US. Despite that I found it very competetive, if not cheaper than the comparable Tone Pros, worth considering. Larry has this kit available in gold, also. Standard post width, so the Tone Pros hardware would fit fine, as well. Whether or not one is noticeably better than the other...I don't believe I can say. It was an improvement over what I had, and from a practical standpoint, having the hardware locked to the guitar during string changes is a great thing, and can only help sustain. Rockabilly69 recently tried both on the same guitar in a short span, and is more discerning than I, he may have an opinion. http://www.cvgshop.com/Faber-Parts-Tone-Lock-(Studs,-Tailpieces,-Bridges)-Tone-Lock-MASTER-KIT/c4_19_38/index.html My guitar - simple install, I'm really happy with it. My hardware came as "aged nickel". enjoy that thing!
bolero Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 Kidsmoke just did a killer upgrade on his 535, he had a thread on it here you can find where he explains the different options & what he went with very nice guitar!! congratulations! *edit* simulpost!! there you go, straight from the Man hisself
H Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 Nice snatch The TonePros kit is as follows: LPNM04 set (T3BP bridge, T1ZS tailpiece) The 'N' in the code refers to nickel finish. Check with whoever you buy from (I recommend Marquis Distribution in CA) for the correct code for a gold finish. This is a metric bridge and an imperial tailpiece, same as for the Gibson Les Paul. I've fitted these to all the Heritages I've owned aside from an H-516 which had the H tailpiece.
ridethatbike Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 Larry is a great guy to work with. I have one of his Les Paul clones, and it's pretty phenomenal (has the aged Faber hardware too).
blueox Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 No advice on hardware, but congrats on that rich Prospect with HRWs and gold!

reif Posted April 18, 2013 Author Posted April 18, 2013 Thanks to all and yes, i think once I get this one dialed in it will be my everyday guitar.
tulk1 Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 Nice guitar!! The Prospect is my fav Heritage model. And that is a cool one. I think the stock hardware just adds that bit of mystique and possibly even some aged 18yr mojo.
smurph1 Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 Snatch. Snatch all day long. Snatch.LOL..Nice git..I've heard nothing but great things about HRW's..I have some experience with Tonepros hardware..It came stock on the 535 I had and was very stable and great sounding..Set it and forget it!!
reif Posted April 23, 2013 Author Posted April 23, 2013 brought it down to my luthier guy today. he talked me out of changing out the bridge and tail for now. spent maybe half an hour tweaking this and that and now it plays like a dream. happy, happy.
tbonesullivan Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 wow! nice score! those frets definitely need some polishing though, but that's an easy fix. I actually like the schaller roller bridge and hardware on semi hollows. I believe they said the bridge gives a "warm sound" to guitars, which is one of the reasons they used it. If it ain't broke, don't fix it is what I say. Those also really allow you to customize your string spread.
rockabilly69 Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 I have used the Tonepros ABR and the Faber Tonepros system, and like Kidsmoke, I have the tonelock ABR on the H150 now. I liked both ABRs but I think I'd give a slight edge to the Faber because I like the way it locks as opposed to two small setscrews which are very easy to loose, plus I got the ABR with raw brass saddles which I like for tone. I also replaced the stock Nashville inserts with Faber german steel inserts which I LOVE. I also like the feel of the Faber thumbwheels better! I do like the Tonepros stuff more now that I have tried the ABR, I wasn't a fan of the Nashville bridge they used (which comes stock on most Heritages). And currently I have Tonepros lightweight aluminum tailpieces on a Les Paul Special and my new H150! Those tailpieces are very good sounding and help you shave a few ounces from your guitar weight!
tulk1 Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 Crank 'er up!! Prospects are the stuff. Good deal on not spending too much on unneeded hardware, too
