Otis Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 Hey all, After spending months hunting for the right used 535/555, I've finally decided after a nice sale my wife and I had of some real estate to plunk down for a brand new custom as my first Heritage guitar. I know there is LOTS that can be done in the way of customization -- would love to see pics/specs of other custom 535/555 guitars you all have. Curious to hear what options you got, and maybe more importantly, which ones you wish you did get/didn't get. As it stands, I'm thinking I'll build my custom off the 555 platform, since I do like the gold hardware, ebony fretboard, more blingy inlays, and the binding. Thanks! Otis
58super Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 The only customizations I made on my H535 were black top hat Gibson knobs and pointers, a Gotoh aluminum stop tail piece, Klein 58 pickups and Russian PIO .022 Caps. Wolfe has a nice H555 on gbase in vintage wineburst with nicely figured back and top. If I was ordering one I'd order the same finish, upgraded wood and blocks instead of the dots and triangles.
chico Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 well, most would go for the Seth Lovers, based on comments I read (no more HRWs, that is what they used to be equipped with). As for inlays, your call there. I think blocks are the usual for 555s, I like a multi piece neck, and binding with a nice diamond inlay in the headstock. You could even get matching paint on the headstock, that is cool by me. I'm more inclined to silver hardware but you have already said you prefer gold, and that's how they usually come. color? that will be the next big decision. you could go with a custom color too. I go sans whammy bar, but lots here like em. good luck keep us posted on what you go with

Otis Hi there, Otis~ I'm so happy with myGolden Amber 555 HRW, that the ONLY upgrade I'd ad is a slightly fatter neck profile. Mine is fine, but I just prefer a bit of chunk in my left hand. Otherwise, your personal preferences should be tops...not the preferences of others. Some players like wider spacing at the nut, a slightly larger headstock (yes, they'll do that), pickups of your choosing (sadly not HRW's anymore), and the list goes on. The boys on Parsons St. will put one together for you to suit your personal taste. Just to kick-start your ideas on finishes, here's my #1...(That's been seen a lot around the HOC!)

Was going to sell it, but it is just such a nice player, and unique build. http://www.flickr.com/photos/38014506@N03/sets/72157632967495498/ I switched out the Heritage pickguard for a simple one from Pickguardian.

I was looking at that one, and agree that's my favorite color. Maybe I will go for it...
