Kingsman Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 '00 in Vintage Orange.... Let's see if I can attach pics here: I scored this beauty on eBay, and although I had to replace the barrel jack (the new Switchcraft stereo version is very nice) and fix the tone pots (fortunately a little contact cleaner did the trick) it looks and sounds amazing, and has minimal wear. I personalized it with a poker chip / switch surround, which is certainly the cheapest mod I've ever made. These photos show it a bit, but the Schaller pickup mounting rings are way mismatched in color to the pickguard. (Heh -- maybe in fact they're that slightly gray drab light mint color that Strat guys would kill for in a pg!) Anybody know if (and where) it's possible to get replacement Schaller pickup mounts that are actually cream? I'm not that eager to do a Google search for "mint green Heritage pickguard."
skydog52 Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 Welcome to the club. That is a beauty! I like mineral streaking in the wood, makes it special I think. Congrats and enjoy.
H Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 Nice! Schallers can be mounted in standard one-hole rings as the pickup mount point has three holes. If you'd like to use the double-hole system then getting the rings might be problematic if you're in the US as there don't seem to be any importers that handle them. They're readily available in the UK and I'd be happy to order them for you and forward them on. I've done that before for Hfan, another forum member. PM me if that's of interest.
Kingsman Posted April 25, 2013 Author Posted April 25, 2013 Thank you all. Fred, Skydog, how d'you get my picture to look so nice and large? In any case, I appreciate it!!! H, that's very kind of you. I'll buy you a pint of lovely Essex bitter next time I'm in the UK! I'd actually be happy to get one-hole rings as the other problem with the Schallers is they're visually noisy with all those holes and screws. That's great news. I've been a Fender guy 'til now, so forgive my ignorance. Do standard LP mounting rings fit an H150? Any tricks? I understand from this forum that getting a consistent color of cream can be challenging in any event.
H Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 Standard LP mounting rings are fine. Buy the pre-arched type and be prepared to do a little more work on them to get them to fit the top of your 150 with no gaps. This is what you'll need to do: Remove the mounting rings and drop the pickups into the holes. Get a small piece of fine grit sandpaper and put it between the bridge and end of the neck. It needs to be flat to the body, cut it if necessary. Place the bridge mounting ring on top of the sandpaper in its correct position. Apply a little pressure to the ring and move it between the bridge and around halfway to the neck pickup hole. This will shape the bottom of the pickup ring to the top of the guitar. Do the same for the neck pickup ring but move it just between the neck pickup hole and halfway to the bridge pickup hole. Hope that helps - it's easier than it sounds
totonka Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 I was actually able to get cream colored Schaller pu rings from a guy in Canada on eBay. This is the seller's page: http://www.ebay.com/sch/weedsellit4u/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg= Also, maybe try a call to Heritage - they might have some they can sell you???...
golferwave Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 I have a nice set if you want to retain the original setup.
High Flying Bird Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 It does look like an ebony fretboard. Damn nice looking top!
Kingsman Posted April 26, 2013 Author Posted April 26, 2013 Thanks all. Very kind. I think the fretboard is just a really really dark rosewood, though it does feel iron hard and it does bend like buttah!! Thanks for the great leads and kind offers on Schaller mounting rings -- I've ordered a set of one-holers and if I don't like 'em I'll be right back. I'm really enjoying this guitar and this forum.
big bob Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 that has a realy cool vintage vibe going on, I dig it! welcome to the club.
HANGAR18 Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 Is that an ebony neck??? I was looking real hard at that too. Very nice looking guitar!
