Heritage525 Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 I have a newer 550 that I was having some feedback issues with when playing at loud(er) volumes when playing with my band. I also have a hollowbody Gretsch guitar that I was NOT having feedback issues with. Gretsch installs a "soundpost" inside the guitar directly under the bridge. It is basically a piece of dense wood, about 4 inches long, that wedges between the guitar's top and back. I stiffens the top up enough to help reduce feedback. I had my guitar tech install a soundpost in my 550, which worked great! Just thought I would share this.....
deluxemeat Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 i always thought this was good mod to do. i wish more gretsch guitars had more sound post going on... esp under the bridge area so bridges could be direct mounted! mmm white falcon.....
GuitArtMan Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 Ok wierd. I thought the soundpost was to help keep the top from collapsing and/or to couple the top to the back. Don't violins use them? What's the purpose in a violin? It's cool that it reduces feedback, though I'm fairly sure that's not it's intended purpose.
