flattop Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 Was considering changing stock Schaller pickups in my maple top 575 to 57 classics.I saw one bad review among all the good ones From a 555 owner who said the 57s sounded muddy. Any thoughts?
mark555 Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 It's all down to personal preference, Peter Alton has Schallers in his 575 and he thinks it's fine, I had them in my 555 and thought they were awful, I put seymour 59's in their place, maybe you can hear a clip of the pick ups on the makers web site?
rockabilly69 Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Classic 57's work very in hollows, and semihollows, they have a very nice compressed clean tone, and because they are potted they hold up well to the wrong kind of microphonic feedback. Before I started playing fulltime, I did pickup installs for many people using 57 classics and everyone seemed to like them. I also think Seth Lovers work well for that type of guitar.
tbonesullivan Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 personally, I'd go for Seth Lovers. I've always liked the sound of my SD equipped guitars when compared to 57 classic equipped guitars.
Kuz Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Seth Lovers have that open, woody, tone that is wonderful in an Archtop, in my opinion.
flattop Posted May 20, 2013 Author Posted May 20, 2013 Thanks for the great info. Could I stay with the stock pots and caps or should those be upgraded as well?
morg21279 Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 I just changed schallers to seth lovers in my 555. tech recomended keeping the pots. big difference ... open, woody.
rockabilly69 Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 Thanks for the great info. Could I stay with the stock pots and caps or should those be upgraded as well? Well hell while you're in there splurge for a RS guitarworks kit and be done with it:)
