I had a pair of Jenson bookshelf speakes that just sounded great with that receiver. My mother's been using them for the last 15 years but my guess they probably need to be re-foamed. Right now I've got a set of Bose 301 Series II which are also well matched to that amp.

That said, I've always wondered what a set of 901s would sound like with it. As I recall the 901s didn't require a lot of power to drive all those mini speakers.

As I type this, I'm listening to "Blues for Allah" on a Technics direct drive turntable w/Shure cartridge -all 70's vintage.

Dead Head eh? I bet thats a good album, I don't have it. What model Shure cartridge? I was always a fan of the V15 series. The 901's are pretty efficient speakers, but they also love to soak up power. I have had my Carver amp/preamp system turned up to 9 and literally shaking the room ( I also ran 2 Infinity subs) and the 901's never distorted or clipped. All my turntables are Duals.

Kuz HAD one like that. He sold it to Lyle who in turn sold it to Brent who sold it to TalismanRich.

You mean something like this? Brent was just an "enabler" who offered a nice 150 to Lyle who just happened to have the 525. But it did make for a nice winters drive to Paw Paw for a fun evening.

The cartridge is a V15 Mk III.

Back then, a friend of mine was what we'd call an audiophile. He was the guy with a couple of thousand albums and a Bang & Olufsen turntable. But when he hooked up a pair of 901s, I immediately fell in love with those speakers. It sounded like being at a live event.

Maybe I should keep mine. I play a V15IV. The Bose are lovely in the right room. I would say I am an audiophile. My best turntable is a Dual (Germany) 721. It was their flagship in 76.

But thats nothing. I worked at a rich lady's mansion in Ann Arbor while in college, her husband (deceased) was a Ford VP. The grounds keeper lived in a home on the estate. He had a $10,000 McIntosh system with Cerwin Vega speakers. I had never heard anything like it except for at Cobo Arena!!!

The house we were renting at the time wasn't very big. Likewise, the front room he set them up in was fairly small as well. Still, those speakers (probably Series I or II) were balanced, clear, powerful. At least try them out in your place.

I think I could manage a few more nice guitars hanging on my walls. Best place to store them, you know.

Send those speakers along for long term storage too, if you've a mind to.
