ely Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 Hi, Anyone know what the neck angle at the base on H535 should be - approx or dead on- has anyone lowered the bridge to the bottom and not had the action low enough for how they like it. Cheers, Ely
big bob Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 The bridge on my 555 is just about slammed and my action is as low as possible! Have you considered a pro set up!
ely Posted May 22, 2013 Author Posted May 22, 2013 Hey Bob, Always. Would you mind posting a measurement from top of 12 fret to bottom of low and high E. Im trying to get to the bottom of a couple of issues. Cheers.
big bob Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 I had a hard time seeing the Steele, so I'm not sure if this will help looks like just less than 1/16 low e and about 1/32 + on the high. My glasses are kinda old so I had a real hard time. It could go lower but would hit the frets..
H Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 Hi, Anyone know what the neck angle at the base on H535 should be - approx or dead on- has anyone lowered the bridge to the bottom and not had the action low enough for how they like it. Cheers, Ely Hi Ely, I'm H from Essex Congratulations on your new 535. Sorry to hear about the issues you've found. The 535 is obviously modelled on a late 50s Gibson 335. It shares many characteristics including a neck angle of 4 to 5 degrees. However, this is not the only consideration here: you mentioned a poorly cut nut, this will have an impact as will truss rod adjustment. Finally, the height at which the neck is attached to the body has a large bearing on the adjustment for the bridge. I understand your frustration about this but I believe a good set-up will get you back to what should really be happening now: you enjoying playing a quality handmade instrument.
