Otto, you must be kidding. That's exactly what happened with my 445! Fortunately, the other buyer ended up selling it to ME.

hang in there - you will find others. I paid $750 for a H 150 in Northern Virginia a few years back - it was perfect flame top and had an unusual serial so I sent to Heritage and got the following back:

16 yrs. old

Only making 500 total.

Your's is #90

I have more "good deal" stories than I could tell in a day. People going across states and countries for me, refusing to take gas money, and so on, and so forth.

There was one deal that made me angry.

I had two Electra Westone X189 guitars. An '83 and an '84. I was talking to a guy who really wanted one and we agreed to make a trade that was awfully advantageous to him insofar as I had two and he had none.

I brought them both upstairs and said, "I'd rather you take the one on the left, I really like playing the one on the right." There wasn't much difference between them. Maybe one was an 8.0 and the other was an 8.5.

He says, "I want the one on the right." I sigh and make the deal.

A ****ing month later he emails me trying to get top dollar for that guitar. He'd decided to sell it and he knew I was fond of it so he tried to put about 25% worth of mustard on top of the deal. I refused.

I made me angry for two reasons. The first is that I made the deal with him because I thought he deserved to have one of those guitars and I was okay with having one instead of two... and then he sells the thing immediately, no doubt because it's an easier sell than the one for which I traded him. It made me feel like he'd set me up. Second reason was trying to make money off my attachment to the guitar.

The most pathetic part is what I've saved for last: the dollar amounts involved.

He traded me a $175 guitar for a $200 guitar.

And tried to sell it to me for $250.

So now I'm permanently angry with the guy over fifty bucks.

Oh well.

It's bad but it's not that bad. The guy was looking out for you after all and he did find the guitar himself. His only crime was brining it to your attention and then realizing he wanted it for himself. That's a tease but not an absolute injustice. Considering your affinity (and mine) for Heritage guitars, this was almost predictable. Sort of like having him set you up on a blind date with a smoking hot girl and letting him pick her up and drive her over to meet you, you simply gave him too much time and opportunity to succumb to temptation.

Here's my sob story: I was the first person to call a seller about a H445 that was for sale and the guy agreed to sell it to me. The snag was that he was at work when I called him and he told me to call him back the following morning to work out the details. When I called him he was kind of sheepish and eventually told me that he decided to sell it to someone else. I flat out told him he was breaking my heart. The person that did buy it had it for a couple of months and then sold it. Oh well...that's the way it goes sometimes.

His "only" crime was breaking his word. Isn't that bad enough? Sorry, but I am siding with the OP here. Now when are you going to sell me that 137?

But he didn't break his word. He changed his mind. That's the material difference. Now...if the OP had given the other guy the heads up and asked him to go check it out and buy it for him, that would be an entirely different story.

I've decided I'm going to sell you the 137 next June 31st.

Wrong wrong wrong. He asked me to contact the guy with his phone # in order to do me a favor and go look at it for me. Him keeping it was never even discussed. Word broken.

Hey, don't take me wrong. I get it. You feel aggrieved. I've been there. My objective assessment of the situation, for whatever it's worth, is that your reaction and that of others is somewhat out of proportion to the offense. That's all.

Well I live in the Philadelphia area and already own a beautiful 535. I have been on the hunt for a 150 for quite some time and knew that a great deal would find me. Well, my guitar teacher, who is obsessed with all things Gibson and has a collection of les Paul's going back to some sweet '59 specials, never gave heritage the time of day, until I showed him the 535 that made his Kalamazoo built 335 a run for the money.

Fast forward to last week and he knows how much I love the 150's and forwards me a Craigslist ad from south jersey about a 1999 150 in tobacco burst for $750. That's right, $750. I thought, no way but he told me to email the guy to call him and since they live only miles apart, he would check it out and if clean, straight and above all had killer tone, he would pick it up for me and I'd pay him back next week.

Long story short, not only did he tell me it was practically unplayed, but the nicest LP style guitar he had ever seen on CL. Well, you guessed it, he told me that he was keeping it for himself and absolutely crushed me.

Now I don't care about losing the guitar, but this guy who I trusted as a teacher, broke the code. I was heartbroken. Never thought that anyone who understood the code of picking, and collecting would screw a friend and student. But his sickness prevented him from passing it on to me as agreed and then agreed to sell it to me at a great price once he was done with it. If I had missiles pointed at his house, his 50 guitar collection, would be ashes right now.

Has anyone else ever had someone do this. I think it's unforgivable and not only have I lost a teacher, but also a bit of faith in my fellow man. What a bummer.

Thanks for the vent.

I know there's a lot of sucky stories out there, but I wanna share a good one..When I bid on my 57 AVRI Stratocaster in the non Heritage section of this board, the owner was asking $950..I offered $800 and because his parents are West Virginians..He said yes sure I can do that.. But it get's better! I offered to pay for shipping, because I was getting such a great deal on what is now a $2000 guitar.. He said don't worry about it I'll be going through there this weekend..We can just meet and you can pick it up!! So all I had to do was drive 10 miles and pickup what is still my absolute favorite guitar!! Thanks Dbetts 41 you da man!!

Well, that just blows. What was the point of even telling you about it if he was considering buying it himself?

Agreed - if he wanted to stay in character, after seeing the guitar he was supposed to evaluate for a friend, and realizing he wanted it more than staying true to a friend, he should have lied and told you that it was a terrible guitar with a headstock repair, nicks and cracks, and was garbage... while still buying it for himself.

Then I could admire him for being true to himself as a liar, d-bag, and generally all-around untrustworthy fellow. Hope he doesn't have children...

My teacher let a long time student borrow a guitar-a nice jazz big box. The student never came back and neither did the git. Famous people seem to have gear stolen all the time. THE HOC has been helpful in getting stolen stuff back on at least one or more occasion. There is good an bad out there...That is what it is....so, I guess most important is how we deal inside w/ the garbage or good that happens outside.

Either way, your teacher messed it up...but to let him further screw things up for you by letting this eat away at you all the time is crap! He's a jerk, he has to live w/ that. Go get you a great guitar and move on to the happiness. He's done enough.

Your guitar teacher lacks ethics, class, and obviously isn't very smart. But , he did you a favor. Look this guy up on youtube: Rob Bourassa Guitar. $25.00 per 1/2 hour, gives live video lessons through Skype, and he usually prepares a download for you at the end of the lesson with exercises to work on which you can accumulate in your own lesson download library and refer back to any time you want. He teaches all levels but most of his students are professionals.
