HANGAR18 Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 Shipped the Brazilian rosewood fret board blank off to Marv for my Custom build today. Thought you all would like to see it before it is installed. I had a theoretical discussion with someone once as to whether or not the Heritage factory would accept a maple billet from me which would be used for my own special order. Without any input from the factory on the matter, whoever I had this conversation with and myself concluded that they would not accept building materials from me. The idea was based on the premise that that a quilted maple top would double the price of the guitar and add one year to the wait time. So I thought that if I bought a maple billet that I liked from a supplier of instrument quality wood, that perhaps I could reduce both of those undesirable factors a bit. So, my question is... Did the factory agree to accept your building materials in a "Sure, no problem!" fashion or was there a lot of resistance, such as "Well, we really don't like to do that but maybe just this one time."?
DavesNotHere Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 Awesome! Last week when I was in Kzoo, Marv had a mahogany 357 with a Brazilian board on his bench.

GuitArtMan Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 does it really smell like roses? Mine doesn't, but then it was brought back to the US in the '70s.

This has come up before.... I have heard Marv & Ren say a couple times that they prefer to use their own wood vs a customer supplying their own wood. The reason is that don't know the quality of the wood, how long it has been cured/dried, ect.... I also heard them say that there would not be a Heritage Factory warranty on a guitar made from customer wood. That said, this piece of Brazilian is fantastic and I would do the same in a hearbeat!!!! Good Luck BG, and I can't wait to see how it turns out!!!!
