gpuma Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 ... Even though the sale of the Fralins and the prospect of recouping some money was the reason you yielded to the temptation in the first place, right? That's how it works for me at least
yuominae Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 Lol, that's how it works for me as well I wish there was a single guitar that would just do it, but I haven't found it yet...
PunkKitty Posted June 10, 2013 Author Posted June 10, 2013 ... Even though the sale of the Fralins and the prospect of recouping some money was the reason you yielded to the temptation in the first place, right? That's how it works for me at least I yielded to the temptation because my Ibanez guitars just didn't feel right after playing my Heritage guitars. The pickups didn't have anything to do with this decision.
kidsmoke Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 Sweet looking guitar PK, can't wait to have a look, and that 150 as well!! finish looks just like my 535, but for that hardware bolted to the top! Not worried about weight? Fralin P92's, HRW's...your pickups alone are quite the attraction.
Guest HRB853370 Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 After doing a cost benefit analysis, I've decided that it's not worth it to swap the pickups. It would be different if I was to do the work myself. But I HATE doing electronics work on semi hollows. By the time I add up the installation fees, hassle, etc, it makes sense to just keep the Fralins. By the time I add up what it will cost to have new pickups installed and the resale value of the 57 Classics or Lizards, it's almost equal to what I can get for the Fralins. I may as well save myself the hassle and just enjoy a nice set of Fralins. Now that is the kind of analysis I would have done! Good conclusion!
gpuma Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 I yielded to the temptation because my Ibanez guitars just didn't feel right after playing my Heritage guitars. The pickups didn't have anything to do with this decision. Of course, I was just PunkKitting you
schundog Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 The dip in plastic feel that art cores have is hard to take after playing nitro finished guitars.
tbonesullivan Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 well, both the 57 classics and the lizards are good pickups. I would say, go with the lizards. There are a ton of guitars out there with 57 classic pickups, but not lizards. Also the sound clips sound awesome, and the 57 classics can be harsh in some situations.
yuominae Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 The 57 classics that I tried sounded good, but the were not nearly as smooth as the BG lizards. Lizards FTW I say!
SouthpawGuy Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 Nice Prospect, congrats ! Interesting to know how those Fralins sound.
PunkKitty Posted June 10, 2013 Author Posted June 10, 2013 To me the Fralins sound like good P90s without the hum. They are slightly brighter than standard humbuckers. But they have a nice grungy undertone that just makes them growl.
SouthpawGuy Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 Thanks. I almost went for a pair of those for the 576, wasn't sure if the staggered poles would affect the sound in a lefty guitar though.

rockabilly69 Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 I would sell all three sets of pickups and get some Throbaks, hey you asked for our opinions, and the HOC gets a nice discount on Throbaks! This way you get the guitar that does it for you, and one of the most musical sets of PAF pickups made. Or for a little less ($300) you can go for the Seymour Duncan Custom Shop Peter Green Set (with the unflipped magnet option). I think both of these sets of pickups will be better sounding than any of the three sets you've mentioned. My new H150 is speaking in tongues since I got the PG set, and the best neck pickup I've ever heard was a Throbak. And I've heard my share of Classic 57's and Fralins, although I'm not familiar with the Kleins:) Oh yeah, that is a sweet looker of an AXE, and perfect with that wiggle stick, hillbilly, crowbar.
laowai Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 I don't know enough to recommend pickups for you, but I just wanted to say what a georgeous guiter. Nice find. If pressed, I'd say the '57 classics though.
heritagefan7 Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 congrats kitty on the new H git! Quite a grab. I have no experience w/ either of the pups u r asking abt. sorry. I've heard great things abt the 57 classics--they are so popular that u prob have a pretty good sampling on that sound. Blessings on it!

PunkKitty Posted June 16, 2013 Author Posted June 16, 2013 I decided to attempt the surgery myself. It was successful after a bit of swearing. I went with the BG Lizards. Bryan makes great pickups. These are easily on par with Lollars. Alnico 2 magnets. ~ 7,5k each. Raw nickel covers. It sounds awesome.
