Spruce top Prospect Possible?

Hey Heritage guys,

Called over to Heritage and couldn't get an answer from Ren regarding this question. "Give me your number and I'll call you back" routine. But do you think if I got them Spruce top laminate that they would make a Spruce top Prospect w everything else being the same? Josh would really like Heritage to make one for him, but i guess we could approach the custom builders if not. Any thoughts, anyone commissioned a small spruce top from Heritage?

Why would you want a spruce top in a laminate. I would suspect after the gluing procedure it would sound the same as maple.

Now a solid carved spruce top, that would be the bee's knees.

When I had my Prospect made I asked about a solid top. Not Spruce, but solid anyway. I was told no. Something to do with the jigs, or the way it's made ... something. Maybe that is what Ren is trying to figure out. Probably waiting to hear from Marv if that can be done.

I might be wrong, but I believe curly told me that the process for Heritage lam tops is two plys of birch and one ply of maple. So I can't imagine substituting spruce for the maple would do any thing but change the appearance.

This is a very interesting discussion!!

If Heritage won't build a Spruce top Prospect, you might get them to build a Spruce top 525 with humbuckers. Now that would be sweet!

Or, as you noted, you can look into other builders. PRS builds a couple of Spruce top variants of their hollow body electric:

Yes it is very easy to get a spruce top/maple guitar, just wanted one from Heritage if possible. Issue of Prospect, is like you say, has to be laminate top, they won't build a solid Spruce top in Prospect model. Too much tension for soundboard according to Ren. And they don't have Spruce Laminate. Hell I would get a Spruce laminate board if they would build the guitar. Just thought one of the guys might know why everyone else has Spruce top in a smaller 339 style guitar and Heritage doesn't or if there is anyone who actually got them to build something like that in the past?

Aristocrat by Guild (not the movie) would be something like that and they are building them again.

Lance is correct. A laminate spruce doesn't make sense to me either... You aren't going to get the tradition spruce tone so why not just a cool looking Maple laminate top? If you are purely going for the solid Spruce look, even though it would be laminate, then I guess I say go for it (even though I think maple tops look better than solid spruce tops).

That Spruce Mille would be mine and I will be bringing it to PSP. It is a thick carved top not laminate and has no f holes. This guitar is acoustically resonate, more resonate than my Hamer Newport 90 which also has a carved spruce top but with f holes. Marv was concerned that the spruce might crack with age, so my request that it not have f holes, which could be a stress point for cracking, made him feel more confident in the strength of the top. It took a full year (2 years total build time) to dry the spruce in Heritage's shop before Marv felt the wood was ready. It hasn't cracked yet.

Well there you have it!

Len, have Heritage build your son a Spruce top Millenium PRO with no F-holes. That would be an amazing instrument!!!

Right back at ya Bob. Your 170 Chestnut Burst triple pickup Heritage is Fab.

In fact going back thru the picture gallery to find your guitar, I realized how lucky we are to be Heritage owners.

I hope the guitar players of the future, who will be the next owners of these guitars, have the same feeling.

Jesus Mary, that's sweet! Love the tailpiece, and since I play spruce topped guitars 90% of the time, I love the spruce!
