bolero Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 I'm getting a hosting co when I go to Heritage www.heritageguitar.com I hope it's just a hiccup, or a move to a new server?
PunkKitty Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 I get the same thing. Maybe they are launching an updated site. The old one was pretty out of date.
HANGAR18 Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Maybe there is an HOC member who already owns a hosting company. hint-hint
HANGAR18 Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 YAY! I fixed it! I called the hosting provider who confirmed that the account status was in a "suspended" status and I asked if there was a bill due which I could pay to get the site back up and running. I told the guy that I knew that domain name registration date had just passed but a renewal had taken place and the domain name was resolving correctly, and then wondered if perhaps that was a bill due. The guy at the hosting company said that he didn't know why the account was in suspended status, there didn't seem to be a bill due and so he unsuspended the account. Bingo! Site is back up.

So you host the Heritage Guitar site? For how long?
HANGAR18 Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 So you host the Heritage Guitar site? For how long? No, I don't host the Heritage site. But having been in the hosting business for such a long time, I was able to do a little research into some behind the scenes stuff on my own (the same basic troubleshooting that anyone at their help desk would have done) so that when I called, I would have something intelligent to say. I didn't even get "authenticated" when I called. (Which is fine because we did not need to discuss any private information such as user names, passwords or credit card information). So it worked out just fine without me actually being an official Heritage Guitar representative.
chico Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 you will receive a gold star for your efforts hangar. I didn't say goldTOP. goldSTAR.

jazzblues Posted June 29, 2013 Posted June 29, 2013 They could use a new site... Imagine if they added one of those flash custom guitar builders! I don't think I'd ever leave the house.

Dick Seacup Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 They could use a new site... Imagine if they added one of those flash custom guitar builders! I don't think I'd ever leave the house. That is the new site ! I know, right? It's funny; seems like every couple of months someone suggests they need a new site. I thinks the one that is up there now is only their second one ever. SouthpawGuy Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 A link to the previous Heritage site from January 2009 ( Internet Archive ) http://web.archive.org/web/20090116074115/http://www.heritageguitar.com/
HANGAR18 Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 They could use a new site... Imagine if they added one of those flash custom guitar builders! I don't think I'd ever leave the house. +1 IMHO The only purpose for using Flash on a web site is to provide free visual entertainment to the web surfers. Using Flash means that the company with the web site will spend a ton of money getting the flash graphics done and then have the server resources bogged down to the point the web site where the web site will either run a lot slower or the company will have to spend a lot more in hardware upgrades on the server end. If you are small business trying to make money, Flash on your web site is a bad idea. Besides, Flash doesn't load and display properly on many mobile devices and the true purpose of a web site is to provide information, quickly and easily to web surfers with a genuine interest in the product of subject of the web site. The current web site is a fantastic improvement over the original web site! A little updating is needed and a broken link needs to be fixed, but other than that, it's a great web site! Great photos too!
SouthpawGuy Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 One of the G&L dealers recently had a virtual guitar builder added to their site which is actually very cool.
SofaPlayer Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 Hangar, I agree completely! A flash guitar builder wouldn't make sense economically for the company, it would just be a nice plaything for us addicts.
chico Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 the website shuts down for a week every year right around the 4th of July, just like the factory.
