SofaPlayer Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Why do nearly all Classic / Golden / Super Eagles come in one of the variations of a brown burst finsh? Some Blondes here and there, maybe a transparent blue one every once in a while and also a few with an antique natural top and burnt amber back and rim but that's it. Why are there none with a transparent wine red, emerald green, transparent black, amber, burnt amber or cherry finsih? Not even chestnut sunburst or vintage wine burst seem to be on the wish list of Eagle customers. Am I the only one who finds that a little boring? And why are there so few with P90s? Why haven't I ever come across one with a Lollar Charlie Christian? What's up with all the Eagle players, are they (we) a bunch of ultraconservative, fanciless old geezers? Looking forward to reading your opinions.
SouthpawGuy Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Probably for the same reason as most lefty guitars are only available in black, or maybe a brown burst, they're a safe bet for manufacturers, i.e. they will sell.
SouthpawGuy Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 From the gallery ... Super Eagle .. Cherry burst, Bigsby, gold
SofaPlayer Posted June 24, 2013 Author Posted June 24, 2013 Nice! Looks very special, very different.
SouthpawGuy Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 The photo was uploaded by MartyGrass, don't know if he still has that one.

Shouldn't at least the standard Gibby L5 colors be a safe bet? That would include wine red and black, yet both colors are rare as hell on Heritage Eagles. Such a shame!
Ned Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 This one passed through a number of HOC hands...... http://www.heritageownersclub.com/forums/gallery/album/412-2bornot2bop-ge-ms-black-tie-affair/

Just a guess but that may be why they're so rare in wine red and black, the guys wanted to establish their own way of doing things.
SofaPlayer Posted June 24, 2013 Author Posted June 24, 2013 Yeah, I've seen that before. I absolutely love it!

I don't blame the Heritage foks anyway, I've just been wondering how few have been ordered in a non standard color, since this isn't a problem at all at Heritage. Well, the best is yet to come, I guess...

Looking forward to reading your opinions. Ever try to sell a "green" or "wine red" archtop? It's easier to pull your own teeth than to find a buyer. Kenny Burrell, Wes Montgomery, that's as "fancy" as it gets for sum of us!
Ned Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 I should have let you post your own pictures Greg - I couldn't resist, and it seems like you haven't been around too much lately.....I would say the the Super KB was plenty fancy.

Yes she was...as was Ms. Black Tie Affair...whose now knee deep in jazz studies with her new jazz major student-owner...that's one "black" archtop that amazingly had no problem finding a buyer...I had a tougher time selling a black Gibson Lucille than that black non cutaway GE. You see my latest Custom?

All right, green archtops may not be very sought after, but wine red? I beg to differ. There even are a few orange ones around which don't hurt my eyes worse than a green one would. However, the bigger the guitar gets, the less variation in color there is. You can find a lot more 525s, 575s and S16s with fancy finishes than Eagles. Conservatism may come with size.

Ned Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 You see my latest Custom? If that's from the zoo, I've never seen anything like it. What a profound beauty. Mr. Bop, you bring the best to us regularly. Breathtaking

Breathtaking Many thanks Ned...nope, that one was made right here in the Pacific N'west! But with Tiger Maple like that I can understand how one could get confused

randy2270 Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 This is my 96 Eagle with a kent armstrong P 90 The pup is pretty well respected and I think kent armstrong stopped making it. but I should shut up because I just got a stock fingerrest that I just stained and finished and I am installing the stock minihumber that I had. http://www.ebay.com/itm/HERITAGE-EAGLE-GUITAR-ASB-HOLLOWBODY-1996-EXCELLENT-CONDITION-/271203864409?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT&nma=true&si=3aACWnEkfZVQSOahD2myMfClPts%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc
randy2270 Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 I also saw this http://www.archtop.com/ac_01%20heritage_eagle.html I especially like the work they did on the fingerrest, it is a nice shade with what seems to be just a hint of clear coat, wax or lacquer.
