cperc Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 Hi guys! Just wanted to say hello and show off my new to me Heritage 535 AlmondBurst According to the serial it's a 1996 and doesn't seem to have been played much. I just got it today and once I restrung it with 11's I haven't put it down! This is my first 335 style guitar and up till now had only tried Gibsons in the store. I was a little unsure on the headstock but man am I glad I didn't let that stop me! What a beautiful, outstanding guitar to play! Thanks for taking a look, here is a pic from the seller! -Chris
gpuma Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 Welcome Chris, Congratulations on your wonderful H-535. Stick around, you'll have fun!
tulk1 Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 Nice!! And welcome to the HoC, Chris. Thats a great start to your Heritage collection. Looks like Almond Sunburst (ALSB).
Ned Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 You will come to love the headstock. It is part of your great looking, and more importantly great sounding guitar. Congratulations Your lover will be jealous
2bornot2bop Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 You scored, as that's one heckuva first time Heritage guitar!!! CONGRATS!!!!!!!!
Redsand Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 Welcome Cperc!! I too started the Heritage journey with a H535.
DC Ron Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 That's a great guitar--congrats! I like that it still has the original Schaller hardware, which is often changed out.
TalismanRich Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 Welcome aboard Cperc. You won't find any shortage of 535 lovers here!
chico Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 welcome. waiting for my first H535, but the others make up for it! yours is gorgeous. play it in good health. look forward to your posts of the bonding you are sure to make.
cperc Posted June 25, 2013 Author Posted June 25, 2013 Thanks for the warm welcome guys! Only mod I have planned so far is I would like to change out the pickguard for a black one. Does anyone know or can recommend a good place to get one? I emailed Heritage and they want $170 for one which was quite a bit more than I was expecting to spend, or are they the only source and I'm out of luck? Lol thanks again! -Chris
tulk1 Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 Heritage is very proud of their finger rests. As well they should be. Like the one on yours, it's wood, finished the same color scheme as the guitar; bound. A lot goes into making that guard. Not sure if a stock Gibs guard will fit exactly. You might try it. They aren't that expensive. Allparts, StewMac, GC. They all might have one. Or try Ebay. There was a seller on there recently with lots of Heritage fitting guards.
DetroitBlues Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 You may not find a Heritage like pickguard, but I think there was a guy on the For Sale/Buy who had a variety of pickguards. Another thought is a Gibson ES-335 style might work as well.
tsp17 Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 Welcome Cperc!! I too started the Heritage journey with a H535. Same here. Welcome!
SouthpawGuy Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 Thanks for the warm welcome guys! Only mod I have planned so far is I would like to change out the pickguard for a black one. Lol thanks again! -Chris I removed the guard from mine, personally I think it looks better without one. That 535 was also my first Heritage, welcome to the addiction !
cperc Posted June 25, 2013 Author Posted June 25, 2013 Thanks! I will probably just do a tracing and have a BWB plastic pickguard made for it to see how I like the black since I like the Heritage design and then decide if I want to fork out the $$$ for the Heritage one. -Chris
TalismanRich Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 I like the way Heritage does their pickguards with the matching burst. Its pretty unique. You might also check with Aaron Cowles to see how much he'll charge for a black pickguard. Personally, I prefer wood to the plastic. You don't generate the static if you rest your pinky on the guard while strumming and picking. If you're handy with tools, you could always trace a nice maple veneer, apply the black dye and clearcoat yourself. If you have a spray gun, you could even go with nitrocel lacquer.
