Custom shop label?

Quick (and maybe stupid) question for the knowledgeable heritors here:

The H150 Classic I got from Mr Knopfler74 in exchange for my Gibby has a label that says "Heritage Custom Shop" on it:

What is the "Heritage Custom Shop"?And, before somebody makes the obvious reply, yes I know what a custom shop is :D

I'm just trying to figure out what this guitar actually is. I know it was blue once, and that it's got a fabulously amazing neck, but am trying to figure out the rest :)

I've had both Custom Shop labels and regular 'ol labels in my guitars. Even have a regular label in my custom orders. So, yeah, probably whatever sticker was available when they needed one.

Also some dealers make custom orders from the factory. Maybe they get the Custom Shop label?

Another interesting thing is that some labels are signed by some or all of the builders. Mostly I've seen it on custom orders, one-offs (aren't they all one-offs?), or first builds or special editions.

My H530 came with a signed Custom Shop lable AND a Certificate of Authenticity since it was the first production made H530. Go figure!

I just look at it as another unique and cool factoid of Parsons Street builders.

I believe the initials on the bottom are Jay Wolfe's.

Jay told me the "classic" designation denotes that the guitar had factory '59s installed. Heritage was using Schaller as standard at the time.

This is from my 150. (for sale in the Heritage section, Yea shameless plug)

Marv and Jim signed it at PSP last year.

Best theory so far. My label is the same but doesn't have the Wolfe Guitars sticker on it though. The hang tag says "Sold through Lasar Music Corp. Bretwood, (sic)TN". That would also suggest these are Jay Wolfe's initials too, right?

Methinks this would be one of those questions to ask whilst touring the deep recesses of 225 Parsons St.

I think I have at least 3 different types of labels on my various Heritages. The H140 has a plain white label that says Heritage Guitar Inc. Model and a line under that.

The 535 and 525 have the round Custom Shop label. The 157 has the square label. Can't remember what the Mille has.

Personally I think the custom shop labels have a "rounder" tone than the square labels!....... :icon_scratch:

Lasar was Lane Zastrow. He is now in charge of Heritage's world wide distribution (outside of the US). I'm not certain what the relationship was between Jay and Lane. Jay did open a store in Brentwood a couple of years ago, but alas, it has recently closed.

One less reason to make the 2 hour drive to Nashville to see the in-laws :laughing7: (just a joke they are great people)

Well I checked the 535, which was bought new from Wolfe Guitars in '07 and has the "Custom Shop" label. No initials under " Inc ".

It might be a little difficult to fit his hand in there ;)

That's interesting and would make sense. So a direct order for something with non-standard specs gets a custom shop label... Makes sense. And because there are much less Heritage guitars around the chance of getting a "custom shop" label is much higher than for a gibson.

Excellent :)

Is the classic designation only related to the pickups?

Or do they make it more like a "classic" Gibson Les Paul?

Mine has Schaller tuners as opposed to grovers. I am not sure how much of the hardware was changed by previous owners, but the tuners seem to be original as there are no additional holes.

And the JW initials onit would mean JW inspected the guitar when they received it? Interesting. Heritage guitars are so unique and cool :)

Email excerpt from me to Jay Wolfe

...I was wondering if you could tell me if there is signifigance to the "Classic" designation and the Custom Shop label.

I know that virtually every Heritage is "Custom" but I haven't seen the Classic designation before.

It's a 2005 V serial number .Any info would be greatly appreciated......

Email excerpt from Jay Wolfe to me

.....Heritage used the CS labels for a while, however you’re correct- most Heritage’s are custom.

For years this model came std. with Schaller HB’s., and if we ordered them with the (then) optional Duncans- they designated the guitar a “Classic.”....
