garyyamane Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 My 535 is the first semi hollow body and I am wondering how one goes about accessing the electronics should something go wrong?
SouthpawGuy Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 I had all the electronics work on mine done by someone with experience of that type of job. It involves surgical tubing and lots of patience !
kidsmoke Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 there are two options, and both require planning and patience, but it's very manageable. A) The f-hole where the pots are located, and b ) the bridge pickup route. The latter can vary significantly from one guitar to another. I replaced ALL the electronics (the harness) on my 535, and put everything through the bridge pickup route, and used the f-hole for some final maneuvering. I'm not a particularly skilled dude, and haven't done lots of this type of work. So it's not THAT big a deal. the business end.
garyyamane Posted June 28, 2013 Author Posted June 28, 2013 Thanks for the info---I thought I'd have to hire someone with very small hands!
DetroitBlues Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Take it to a professional.. Snaking the electronics in and out of the F-holes is very tricky and you can make mistakes really easy...
jazzblues Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Here's a video of somebody doing it on a Gretsch. I suppose you could do it yourself, but I'd take it to someone who I can blame if it goes wrong.
High Flying Bird Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 My 535 is the first semi hollow body and I am wondering how one goes about accessing the electronics should something go wrong? I took mine to a local guitar tech when I had the pickups changed. I didn't have the stomach for the job. Best $90.00 I have spent in a long time.

TalismanRich Posted June 29, 2013 Posted June 29, 2013 I've worked the pots and caps by feeding through the f holes. If I had to do it again, I would probably pull the pickups. It was VERY tedious, and there's a greater possibility of damaging the guitar's finish. The pots just BARELY fit though the f holes.
