I also replaced the HRWs with a set of Sheptone Tributes that I had. I installed a set of raw nickel covers on the Sheptones. I plan to resell the HRWs to recoup some of the costs of the guitar.

I like the look of those covers on the Shemps.

....and? Tone report, please!!!

The amber knobs and switchtip are definite improvements as well. I like adding the metal pointers ,not recommended for Pete Townshend windmills though.

I'm waiting on a set of Sheptone tributes too.

Killer axe ! Sheps are fantastic pups ! :icon_rr:

+1 on both statements...

I have Sheps in my 157 and love those pickups.

Your setup looks great! The amber/bronze-ish vol/tone knobs (and switchtip) certainly compliment the outside hue of your H-150's tonewood (along with the creme pickup bezels/rings accenting the inside hue)... Those Tributes should be clean and bright in either the bridge or neck position; definitely not as muted as other manufactuters. If I may intrude, did you get the double-black or the zebra set? Are they straight or flipped magnet (ala Peter Green)? 2-wire or 4? I ask because I'm considering the same upgrade to my '86 H-140CM. Thanx in advance.

I haven't really spent a lot of time with the Sheptones. They are brighter than the HRWs. I had to change the tone settings on my amp to bring out the best tones. To me they sound complex. Scooped mids. Great lows and highs. No mud. They seem to bring out the overtones in the guitar quite nicely. I'm glad I installed them. These Tributes are 2 wire. They are not the Peter Green model. I bought them used on ebay and installed the covers myself.

Is this the 2012 model from Brent? Are you bringing it to PSP?

PK:

Thanx for the thorough run-thru. I anticipated you had to adjust amp settings, as that's a good indicator of how your H-150 is responding to their output. A friend has them on his Les Paul and, as you said, the sound is complex. Hell, they really do have great lows/highs. I noted there is no bleed-thru on his LP, so, I'm thankful to you for your feedback on the H-150.

This is the 2012 from Brent. I haven't decided what I'll bring to PSP. I may bring my 85 H170 or the Prospect.

So the Sheptones are brighter than the HRWS ? Interesting.

I tend to like warmer sounding humbuckers. Having said that though I really like the Pearly gates in my 150, which are supposedly a bright sounding pickup. I have mine set close to the strings which fattens up the tone nicely.

Do you have your Sheptones set low in the pickup rings or high ?

I use the Bill Lawrence method of setting pickup height.

As a general rule for the bridge pickup - put a nickel on top of the pickup under the high E string and play the highest note on that string. Adjust the height on that side of the pickup till the string touches the nickel. Repeat the same with the low E string, but use two nickels on top of each other. If this gives you too much output, you can reduce the height slightly. Don't forget that twice the distance will reduce the output by about 60%, and the sound will lose some lows. NOW, you can adjust the neck pickup to match the output of the bridge pickup. For the sound test, use stage volume
