garyyamane Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 Heritage recommends 10's for the 535. I prefer 11's and am using Elixir coated strings. Curious what others use.
SouthpawGuy Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 D'Addario 10s on most of them, one is strung with 12s, the 575.
tulk1 Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 Dean Markley 1973 Vintage Reissue 10's. Use them on all of my guitars.
PunkKitty Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 10-46. I don't pay attention to brands. I buy whatever is on sale.

big bob Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 I like elixir for heavier strings like 12s but for the last year I've been using 9s (ernie ball super slinky) on all my guitars except the 575.
Keith7940236 Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 TI Swing 12's on 25.5" Scale, 13's on 24.75" scale. Although I am interested in trying some round wounds on my incoming Eagle.
MartyGrass Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 D'Add Half Rounds, GHS David Gilmours, TI FWs. But I'm always trying new stuff.
jjkrause84 Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 Generally speaking: Ernie Ball Regular Slinky (10-46) on everything. I've recently started using top-wrapped 11s on my Les Paul Special...it feels nice (not quite so floppy and flimsy).
DetroitBlues Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 Dean Markley 1973 Vintage Reissue 10's. Use them on all of my guitars. I love those strings... but I typically use EB's because they are cheaper... Not a problem with them, but the Dean's have been my favorite. Oh, and 10's across the board for me..
garyyamane Posted July 1, 2013 Author Posted July 1, 2013 If anyone is using roundwounds I would be curious to know what differences you have noticed in tone.
Kuz Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 I ONLY use Curt Mangan 10-46 on all my electric guitars, except my archtops which I ONLY use Thomastic George Benson flat wound 12s.
58super Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 Sadowsky 10-46 on the solids and semi-hollows. TI Flatwound 12 on the hollows.
H Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 D'Addario EXL110+ They give a very similar feel to 10s on a Fender scale.
tsp17 Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 TI Swing 12's on 25.5" Scale, 13's on 24.75" scale. Although I am interested in trying some round wounds on my incoming Eagle. Interesting. Why heavier on shorter scale?
davesultra Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 Either D'Addario EXLs', Ernie Ball Slinkys, or GHS Boomers 10-46.
heritagefan7 Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 EB super slinky on my JP12 and old 10's on my 150 & LP that DESPERATELY need changing!...I have 12's on the Guild X500....I want to change these to 11s soon. Prob gonna go EB on all gits next go round as an experiment.
heritagefan7 Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 EB super slinky on my JP12 and old 10's on my 150 & LP that DESPERATELY need changing!...I have 12's on the Guild X500t....I want to change these to 11s soon. Prob gonna go EB on all gits next go round as an experiment.
jjkrause84 Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 Interesting. Why heavier on shorter scale? Because shorter scale guitars have less string tension. Using 11s on a 24.75" guitar feels more like using 10s on a 25.5" guitar does.
smurph1 Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 Don't like Elixirs on my electrics.. I use Cleartone 10s on my Strat, and DiAddario 10s on my Les Paul.. The Taylor 410ce I just bought came equipped with Elixirs, and they sound really nice on it.. So I might start using them again..
Cajun Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 My luthier swears by Curt Mangans - so have been using and I do think they are better. I worked at a music store awhile and they had a running joke that people made a big deal of the strings when in fact many were made by the same companies and just packaged and marketed differently. I have had good luck with Mangans - they are mail order.
Blunote Posted July 2, 2013 Posted July 2, 2013 My Heritages (H535, H150, Millie Std Ultra) get GHS Nickel Rockers 10-46. Being nickel, the last much longer than other stainless offerings and provide a deeper, more mellow tone. The PRS Mira gets D'Addario Pure Nichel XL 10-45. For an even darker tone that helped me tame a few extra bright notes on the high e and b string. I've since adusted the pickup heights and found that solved the issue. But I still like the warmer tone on that all mahogany guitar. The G&L Legacy gets D'Addario Nickel Wound XL 10-46 -in part because I got a deal on a 10 pack for $26 a while back. They sound nice though. I've got an OM style acoustic guitar by Blueridge that gets D'Addario Phosphor Bronze 12-53. I've tried brighter strings, but keep coming back to these. My Gibson Jumbo gets Elixirs. I prefer the 80/20 bronze nanowebs 12-53 over the nanoweb phosphor bronze or heavier coated polywebs. For whatever reason, the brighter strings sound better on that big jumbo.
