Guest HRB853370 Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 Anybody familar with or own a Fender Custom Vibrolux Reverb? It almost seems to be a Super Reverb with only 2x10 speakers, at 40 watts. I just wonder if they are good bang for the buck. I see them used for around $700-$800.
koula901 Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 don't u think any Fender amp is worth the banga buck?
Guest HRB853370 Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 don't u think any Fender amp is worth the banga buck? Not sure what you mean by that?
Spectrum13 Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 Not sure what you mean by that? Banga Buck = love you short time. Good bang for the buck = love you long time and get money back after two years.
H Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 I've played through one of these a couple of times. It has a lot of hiss at low volumes and there are several mods to address this, notably the 'Moyer mods'. It made a good, authentic noise but the Jensen speakers broke up too early. This and the excessive hiss are probably the result of the lack of a negative feedback loop in the circuit. So, worth a look but play it first - the non-musical noise could put you off. The mods to correct it are not cheap as this amp has a PCB.
Kuz Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 I love mine, but it is a '67. No it has a little more chime and high end than a Super Reverb and a tighter bass. And what 20-25lbs lighter!!!!

koula901 Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 Banga Buck = love you short time. nah . . . it was just word play

This has nothing to do with the amps, unfortunately...

schundog Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 Must be the operator with the machine strapped on exactly.

yoslate Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 Will, this thread seems to express, in the first few posts, most of what I've heard about the amp. Haven't played one, but I've been in a room with someone who was using one. Sounded fine to me, playing blues, with a 335. But then, I wasn't driving, so I can't offer any insight on using one. http://www.tdpri.com/forum/amp-central-station/210173-vibrolux-reverb-reissue.html

I may hold out.

Kuz Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 What would you say, the one I am seeking is $800 shipped. I may hold out. For maybe another $100 or 200 you could get a Silverface PTP hand wired amp that would arguably sound better from day one, hold it's value better, and could be "blackfaced" if you wanted to later. To me the Silverface would be a no brainier over the reissue.
Guest HRB853370 Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Just curious.... Why do you want it? The 2x10 with a Fender circuit appeals to me. I had a Vibroverb RI but sold it. Silverface amps are rapidly increasing in value and are some of the sweetest sounding ptp Fenders available. Look for one in good condition and where the owner has maintained it and you'll be one happy man. Do a Google search and ya might get lucky. That's how I found mine.

The Vibrolux Fender's selling now isn't even marketed as a "reissue" because it's that different from the Blackfaces of the Sixties. If this new piece is what you want, get one. If you're after an actual Vibrolux, think about what you're hearing from Tim and John. The Silverfaces are terrific in their own right.
H Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Still waiting for an honest review here. I gave you that above. What would you prefer to read about it?

I realize they are NOT a reissue but a modern interpretation of a classic, as Fender says. I just think they are cool-not really gassing! I gave you that above. What would you prefer to read about it? It was perfect Howard thank you very much!
