Heritage H150

Hello forum. I am a new member so please give me some slack as this topic probably has been discussed before. I am very interested in getting a Heritage H150. Very interested in the Alex Skolnick Sig. But after looking at prices of a new H150, lets say around $2000 and a used one for $1200-1600, is the price of the Skolnick model worth that much more? I'm not trying to start any arguments, just curious. I'm not really familiar with the specs of the Skolnick compared to a standard H150. I really would like to place an order for one and I don't mind paying the extra if its worth it.

Thanks for your help.

Welcome shentis,

I can't say much about the Skolnick, but I really like my H150. So this welcome is nothing more than that... welcome. :)

Welcome to the fold, shentis! You'll want to hear "Brentrocks" chime in...and I'm sure he will. He's owned several of both, is a regular at the plant, and has met Skolnick. Brent's $.02 is worth considerably more than that...factoring in inflation.... Good luck on the quest; any good 150 is terrific bang for the buck!

Complicated question on value of an artist model. The benefits are that there are some special options on it you may want, there is usually more attention to quality (usually), and there may be a higher resale value.

The downside is that the artist gets paid a chunk of change for each guitar for allowing his name to be used. So it will cost you more.

You have to decide.

Welcome shentis!

Your question is tough to answer, mainly because of the price difference between used and new. I will be quite frank, I bought my Skolnick used, I was very lucky to find a used one because there are only 20 made thus far and at least 6 of them belong to Alex. I paid $1800 for mine....the seller told me he paid $2750 new from Wolfes in FLA. I upgraded the pickups to THROBAK SLE-101 plus and added locking grovers....it already had locking Tone Pros hardware. As an added bonus, I was lucky enough to meet Alex a year ago and have him sign my H 150...I was totally thrilled!

Bottom line...this is the best H 150 I have ever owned....and I have had a few (no comments from the peanut gallery  ) If you find one, I would grab it.

but

H 150s are a great value in the used market and the quality, as a whole, is usually dam good!!! I guess it really comes down to your desire and your checkbook

I've owned 3 H150's and currently own a H157. Not nearly as many as Brent. I have to say though, they have all been fantastic guitars. I really love my 157 and will get another 150 someday. They are that good. If I could afford a Skolnick, I would pull the trigger right now. I dig the look of the Skolnick sigs and love his playing in Testament. I think the Heritage tops are amazing in general and other companies charge you a phenomenal upgrade price for the same thing.

Wow. That's a really nice guitar Brent. Really cool that you met Skolnick and he signed your guitar. I was surprised that only 20 have been made so far. I just thought there would have been more than that made. Thanks for the info and the picks. I seriously doubt I will ever find one used so placing an order for a new one is probably my only option.

Have things changed with Heritage? That didn't used to be true. In fact, Ren was quite proud of the fact that they don't pay anyone for endorsements. And don't give guitars to them, either. At least that is how it was explained at the PSPs.

I dunno, doesn't Brent get a chunk for his signature "Henderson 150" ?

I think if Brent had a signature model, it would be The Heritage 180!

Brent's signature model is constantly changing, as does it model number, just when you think it's one thing, Bang it changes!

Brent, how does the skolnick compare to the Gary More?

The neck is bigger and it weighs a little more....both fantastic players

Called a Heritage dealer today to get more info and a price on the Skolnick sig. The price was very reasonable and was way below what I was expecting to pay. I thought the prices were set at retail. Probably going to place an order soon. Thanks for the help.

This thread makes me want to sell all of my non Heritage guitars and order a Skolnick!

Alex is a great jazz player. I'd love to see him with a signature H575 or H576.

I highly recommend his DVD jazz course. It's very practical.
