jjkrause84 Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 Well...looks like I shall remain Heritage-less. Went and checked out a gorgeous 2001, ASB 535 today. Flawless condition, goregoues ringing sound....tiny little pencil-thin neck. Well, it was worth a shot. On to the next one, I guess.....
kidsmoke Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 bummer. 2001 and that thin huh? Mines a '02 ASB, and I'd call it middle of the road. She'll find you....

koula901 Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 I have yet to find a 535 with a big enough neck... yeah, they seem to have always been on the thin side . . . even in 1976.
schundog Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 yeah, they seem to have always been on the thin side . . . even in 1976. 535?! 1976. This does not compute!!
SouthpawGuy Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 yeah, they seem to have always been on the thin side . . . even in 1976. Don't you mean 1796 ?

My 2001 Prospect has the smallest neck of any Heritage guitar I own. Coincidence ?
Guest HRB853370 Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 I have yet to find a 535 with a big enough neck... And how many have you auditioned? My recollection is you really liked the neck on my red 2005................
koula901 Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 535?! 1976. This does not compute!! perhaps I should have been more succinct. It was a Gibson 335 - made in the same plant. Same plant, same neck.
Kuz Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 I have yet to find a 535 with a big enough neck... My 555 and 535 have very big 50s necks.
koula901 Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 My 555 and 535 have very big 50s necks. what year were your guitars made, Kuz?
Kuz Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 what year were your guitars made, Kuz? Well, I did special order them with 50s necks..... The 555 was '07 and the 535 P90 was I think '09 or '08.
schundog Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 My old Dot Deluxe, now DBs, has probably the thickest neck, especially down in the first few frets, of any guitar I have played/owned. don't think DB will EVER find a 535 or 335 with that kind of a neck unless he does a custom order. My Gibson ES-335 neck is slightly beefier than my 535, but neither are anywhere nearly as much of a handful as that Dot.
JAM Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 My 2010 535 has a very fat neck... fattest neck of all my guitars ! Takes 5 min. of warm-up scales to limber up my wrist so I can pinky-fret the 6th string. 'Course, I'm a newbie, I expect that seasoned players can adapt near instantaneously. It may have been custom ordered with this neck, don't know, I bought it from consignment at Elderly. Cheers! Jim
jjkrause84 Posted July 9, 2013 Author Posted July 9, 2013 And how many have you auditioned? My recollection is you really liked the neck on my red 2005................ Yeah, I loved the neck on Big Red! I'm a damned fool for selling it 'because I wanted a brown one'. The other two I've tried both had really tiny necks.
