HANGAR18 Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 During a recent conversation with my new wife about how many guitars I have, I declared that I only have two Heritage guitars. I said that I don't actually have two H157's and two H150 Specials but rather, I simply have one H157 and one H150 Special... and a backup for each. So really, I only have two Heritage guitars. And that is where she started laughing at me.
SofaPlayer Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Just make sure she understands that even backup guitars need a backup, too. And that's what they'll get, eventually.
skydog52 Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Ha! That's good. I have gone to algorithms to explain mine. My wife just shakes her head and walks away.
gpuma Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 I tried that with my wife: She threw an ashtray at me, then another as a backup. (Of course I am kidding. Katy is the sweetest and most supporting wife ever)
SouthpawGuy Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Always good to have a backup plan, and as mentioned by HFB, another in case that fails. You can then start to categorize them by colour, black ones + backup(s), blue ones, red ones, etc.
DetroitBlues Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Whenever my wife asks what so different about that guitar versus the one I had... I'll ask her about her Vera Bradley purses and bags she has... or the charms on her Pandora/Chamila bracelets.... What's so different about those... Usually, it stops there.... However, just like the rest of you guys on her, she also follows up now with the question, "So how long are you keeping this one?"
Horace Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 For a long time I would surprise my wife with a new bass for her ( or some new shoes, or something ) and then get a new guitar for myself a months later. Worked pretty well for a while but became obvious eventually. Ususally I run out of money long before I run out of schemes. Once I decide between mini-humbuckers and Lollar Peter Greens for my next one it will be time to start planning another Heritage custom order and a new scheme to get it through the door.

MrB Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 My fear is that when I'm away, my wife will sell my guitars for what I told her I paid for them.

H Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 However, just like the rest of you guys on her, she also follows up now with the question, "So how long are you keeping this one?" I bet Brent's wife doesn't get much of the sentence finished before it's in the For Sale section here
HANGAR18 Posted July 11, 2013 Author Posted July 11, 2013 Creative accounting? Fudging the numbers? I may have to investigate you further.... Not at all. I got the idea from touring musicians back stage guitar racks. I discovered, that during a show, specific songs are played with specific guitars because it seems a particular song sounds best when it is performed with that specific guitar. Makes sense, right? I wouldn't play a BB King song with the same guitar that I would play a Judas Priest song, would I? But what if roady knocks over a guitar and breaks something during a show? You've got to have a backup, right? It's true that I don't tour... heck, I don't even play in front of other people... but it is important none the less to be properly prepared just in case Dave Mustaine give me the call to join his next tour. Okay, that's about all the Tongue-In-Cheek BS I can type with a straight face. hahahaha
big bob Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 You will need 1 for most songs, and a backup should you break a string. You will also need one set up for slide, and 1 for any alternate tunings you might play. I guess a backup for each primary guitar would be wise.
