Billgelder Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 I had a early 70's ES 335 back in the day, the neck was a little thin for me. My H 535 has a fat 59 neck that is perfect.
yoslate Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 The pics are fabulous! But I can't do the one thing here that matters.... Plug my 535 into my Deluxe, and hand it to you....
ezra1 Posted July 18, 2013 Author Posted July 18, 2013 Submitted my specs to Jay and got a quote back from Marv. I am going to do this and now my song writing partner and gigging buddy is going to order one too. We are going to go over his wants Friday afternoon and submit to Wolfe Saturday.
kidsmoke Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 right on, Ezra. Our work here is done....now we wait to hear the joy of discovery.

jazzrat Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 I was gonna say...all those are beautiful pics but that last cherry one is off the chain as they say. Wow!
jjkrause84 Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 Just for some perspective: I've owned a couple 535s and played one or two others. All were phenomenal. Excellent quality guitars in every way. That said, I've also played (and now own!) some very good 335s. Absolutely equal in every way. I do not consider 535s better than 335s or vice versa. They are both good. (If anyone is curious I went with the 335 because I tried it out and fell in love with the neck....and got a good price. I was actually searching for a 535.)
HANGAR18 Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 (If anyone is curious I went with the 335 because I tried it out and fell in love with the neck....and got a good price. I was actually searching for a 535.) I understand the thing about the neck needing to feel the right way. Comparing a new 535 to a new 335, a Heritage 535 can be ordered with a specific neck without any additional customization charge unlike a new Gibson 335. As for price, new or used, a Heritage will quite often be more affordable. (Generally speaking.) And if your 335 is old enough, it would have been made in the same shop as the current 535's. So in your situation, the 335 was clearly a good decision regarding playability, but I think that is more of an exception to the rule. Naturally, on a Heritage Owners Club web site, it is safe to say that the majority here will generally prefer the 535 over the 335.
jjkrause84 Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 Well, ordering either a 535 or 335 new is WAY out of the question. Even used ones cost way more than they should (and actually are not that different in price now...a couple hundred dollars usually). My 335 is Nashville, 1997. A stunning guitar, but then again I've never encountered the Gibson QC beast that so many others describe. I would have preferred a 535 (they're cheaper and have more interesting finishes), but I've learned my lesson: do not pass up a good guitar. I had a KILLER 535 that I sold assuming that they were all just like that one...they aren't.

It was hanging on a wall in a Guitar Center. Perhaps you will run across that 535 some day and be able to buy it back.
