Ned Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 She's a beauty, plays like butter, and has the cleanest cleans. dogmanco1/media/image_zps6532d86e.jpg.html] Binding and MOP traps unlike her sister. media/image_zpsb5e91bf6.jpg.html]
SouthpawGuy Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Bound headstock and traps, can't go wrong there. Congrats !
GASguy Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Beautiful guitar, with very nice appointments, I love the figure and wood grain as well. I think that model is somewhat rare as I have not seen many of them. Congratulations!
schundog Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Congratulations! I agree, the traps and bound headstock/neck REALLY make this an exceptional piece. Is the fretboard rosewood or ebony? What pickups are in this?
Ned Posted July 20, 2013 Author Posted July 20, 2013 Thanks everybody. I am very happy and playing amplified for the first time without wincing. I came out of a large private collection. I have been working on it for a long time. here are the specs as I know them: I can't find a mark, blemish or any sign of use (except a great low set up and nearly flat relief) 1995 (L serial number), OSB, Rosewood, fine tuner tail piece. I am guessing Schaller pickups but I was too impatient on the first string change to pull one. No mention of anything different on the label. one-piece mahogany neck. The hardware is chrome, maybe really clean nickel (but I don't think so) which I think may be unusual on a custom. The binding on the front of the body is multi ply and the finger rest has a very nice ribbon figure. Fit and finish is perfect. Sounds fine acoustically, but through a Twin with a bit too much reverb.....super fine. Built like a prospect with the floating block. Say what you will about the 16" lower bout (I am reminded of a Queen song) but she is super comfortable to play when seated. I am rich in 16" Heritages. Very good days for me.
FredZepp Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 That Academy has some great details.. looks great and has to sound amazing. ( love that 575 Custom also... )
Ned Posted July 20, 2013 Author Posted July 20, 2013 Yes, the 575 is the one to grab when the house is on fire.
DetroitBlues Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Now there is something you don't see every day!
JeffB Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Nice! Ive never seen one of these before. Is this model good for playing lurching arythmic jazz?
koula901 Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Sweet! Does Heritage still make the Academy? I like it!
HANGAR18 Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 She's a beauty, plays like butter, and has the cleanest cleans. So would it be accurate to say that the Academy is a single cut Prospect? That's what it looks like anyway.
SouthpawGuy Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Sweet! Does Heritage still make the Academy? I like it! Don't know if they still make them, but I do know they made them in lefty ....
Keith7940236 Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 That is a very nice guitar, I really like the looks of it. I'll bet it would sell well if it were brought back. Congratulations on a fine get!
tulk1 Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 One cutaway from a Prospect. What's not to like? Beautiful guitar!!
