My quest for ownership of at least one of these legendary guitars, which we here in the HOC refer to as a Heritage H-535 has been completed! I am now the very happy owner of a 1995 H-535 in Antique Sunburst. (ASB) The instrument is old but is still in mint condition. Having a thin and fast neck with a very low action, it is very comfortable to play.

[sorry for the poor quality photo. It was raining and overcast when I brought her home. I'll provide better photos in the future.]

Neck pickup: Jazz

Bridge pickup: Pearly Gates

Two push/pull pots to split each pickup in half.

Happy-Happy Joy-Joy, Happy-Happy Joy-Joy!

Congratulations, Danny! They are fantastic guitars. I have a 535 and a Gibson Memphis Reissue ES-335, and they are equal but different in tone, feel, and MOJO in my opinion. However, I could have bought TWO used Heritage 535 for what I paid for ONE new 335. Enjoy your new best friend....

That's some classic Kalamazoo goodness... such a classic look in that finish!

That sounds like it will be a good combination for the pickups also.... Congrats !!

Congrats! One of the best guitars Heritage makes; IMHO.

What he said.

Congrats! You'll love it.

That cleaned up nicely!! Beautiful. A bit of a unique top on that, too. Not lots of flame, but lots of something.

Nice!!! How does the pearly gates in the bridge sound? Those pickups are on the short list if I decide my H-535 needs to have pickups that aren't the stock schaller pickups.

So how are you liking the 535 compared to the solid bodies ?

I'm still exploring the 535 and the particular arrangements of pickups which is in it at the moment so I don't have anything specific to report right now.

In general, I think that my "right tool for the job" mentality is applicable here in that some of my goals with this guitar are... greater comfort playing while seated and a more authentic blues tone which is often heard from instruments like this. This is not to say that you can't get a good blues tone from other guitars, I'm just trying to emulate a specific tone or mood that I've heard from some specific blues artists who play a guitar like this.

I'm currently pushing myself to increase my learning within the genre of The Blues and acquiring this guitar is an early step in the process. At the moment, I don't have a particular preference for pickups in this guitar and intend to just keep what's in there indefinitely, thinking that it will be good enough for now. I don't think I have a fully grounded baseline for what guitars like this should sound like so I am at somewhat of a loss to comment as to how good these pickups sound compared to other pickups. Because all of the guitars I have ever owned have been solid bodies, I feel like I have to start over again when it comes to pickups. All the pickups I have ever become familiar with are going to sound different in a semi-hollow versus a solid body.

What I can say with all confidence is that I like this guitar!
