MartyGrass Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 It's at Heritage now and will be done in about a week. This has been finished and is awaiting buffing. It's a larger than usual Golden Eagle with a florentine cutaway and a premium wood package. It was kept in a case by Marv to protect it, but he got it out to show some folks. It was not on a Heritage rack. I'm wondering whether anyone has an opinion on how it looks. Thanks.
DetroitBlues Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Nope, I'm not worthy enough to witness such splendor... Sounds like a beautiful guitar!
Guest HRB853370 Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 This isn't relevant to the thread but as I perused it I cannot take my eyes off the dog wagging his toungue! I bet somebody did a wanted poster of me.
tulk1 Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Nope, I'm not worthy enough to witness such splendor... Sounds like a beautiful guitar! That is correct, Josh. You were supposed to have 3 more years in the HOC before you even heard about it. .......... Marv was a bit nervous about digging that guitar out. There were so many people in the room. He carried the case with both hands! Didn't rely on the handle. Then "move back" before he took it out. The wood is probably some of the flamiest (??) I've seen on a Heritage. If they graded wood 1 - 10, this would be 12. You can thank Kuz, he brought it up to Marv. But you could sure tell Marv wanted to safeguard it.
skydog52 Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 I saw it. Started to take a picture. Marv told me not to post it on HOC. I never did take the pic. It is a beauty!
Genericmusic Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 That's not the that Marv dropped on the floor when I bumped into him is it? That was a stunner.
Kuz Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 Maybe, I saw it.... Maybe I didn't. I could tell you but then by order of "P", I would have to kill you....
MartyGrass Posted August 9, 2013 Author Posted August 9, 2013 I saw it before it was finished. The back, top and rims were supplied by the customer and are alleged to be outstanding.
gpuma Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 MG, you were missed at PSP but I miss Sharon Stone more. Going from her to a dog is flat out cruel.
DetroitBlues Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 Maybe, I saw it.... Maybe I didn't. I could tell you but then by order of "P", I would have to kill you.... Is there a secret order within the HOC cult?
H Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 It's the CIA Branch of HOC.It's Patrick posting by proxy.
Kuz Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 Let's just say it might be the most beautiful archtop I have ever seen. The back and rims had a "double stained tiger eye" finish on incredible maple. The spruce top had the most bear claw I have ever seen on a piece of spruce. The wood was incredible, but the finish and color made it for me. Some like bear claw spruce, others like the tight straight "velvet" looking spruce. This guitar will definitely not be confused with the later. "P" is getting an incredible guitar based on looks, and I am sure the boys at Heritage will make it sound right!
Dick Seacup Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 I saw it. Started to take a picture. Marv told me not to post it on HOC. I never did take the pic. It is a beauty! Thank you for respecting the new owner's prerogative. I used to be a member on a different board, one that was dominated by a dealer with an ego roughly the same diameter as the Milky Way. He would regularly post pictures of customers' new builds as soon as they arrived at his shop from the factory. From time to time he'd also post pictures of himself "spanking" some customers' guitars while gigging. I know I was not alone in finding that behavior repugnant. For the amount of money you have to pay, along with the emotional investment in a custom build, I really believe the customer should be the first person to lay eyes on a newly completed instrument. More importantly, the customer should have the right to choose whether or not to publicly display their property. Sorry for the hijack. I'm sure the Custom Eagle is going to be wonderful. Congrats to the new owner! And I hope he or she posts pics. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
MartyGrass Posted August 14, 2013 Author Posted August 14, 2013 Here's the guitar unassembled. There is a lot of bear claw.
SouthpawGuy Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Full acoustic or will there be a floating pickup ?
MartyGrass Posted August 14, 2013 Author Posted August 14, 2013 Here it is with finish. Looking good!
MartyGrass Posted August 14, 2013 Author Posted August 14, 2013 It has a Kent Armstrong custom wound single coil designed to replicate a Rhythm Chief mounted on the pickguard with thumbwheel controls. I hope to have pix of the finished item late next week, just for show and tell.
Ned Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Is there any relation between the delivery of this bit of perfection and the shipping of the American Eagle? The timing seems coincident. I can't think of anything that could made this custom Eagle any better. Nothing.
MartyGrass Posted August 15, 2013 Author Posted August 15, 2013 The guy getting this custom archtop will be dropping off my American Eagle when he gets his guitar. It has required great patience. Heritage has postponed the completion date three times. And yes, it will be worth the wait I'm sure.
