Does anyone here remember Gibson's "The Les Paul"?

I'd like to see Heritage build a similar model; all fine wood appointments, gold hardware, fine craftsmanship, (oh wait, all Heritages get that)! If you've never seen one they were beautiful guitars. Not really made for the stage, but more for a display case. Here's a story from another forum on them: http://www.lespaulforum.com/slub6/article.html

Yes, The Les Paul was the top-of-the-line Les Paul in the late 70s.  I remember that Steve Howe had one.  In addition to nicely grained woods, the pickup rings were wood, as were the volume and tone knobs (in addition to pickguard and truss-rod cover, I think).  I'd actually be interested in finding someone who could craft rosewood or ebony pickup rings, knobs, and pickguards, in case anybody has any referrals.

Dick: Those were/are cheaper ones. I've added a link to a story on the "The Les Paul" model. They listed for 3k when a LP custom was $700!

I've only seen picture, but they are a beautiful guitar, for sure.

Now that Heritage is back to work, talk to Jay.

Nice guitars are just like race cars, how fast do you want to go, and how much money do you have ? ? ?

Yep, that's the guitar I remember--thanks for the link.  I did not know that Abe Wechter had been responsible for that guitar though.  Anyone who knows the quality of Abe's custom-made acoustic guitars will not be surprised.

It was called "The Paul". Like an LP special.Think they renamed them, they were called the Firebrand. Very nice "budget model" They did an SG too I think.

Very nice flame but,I think most Heritage users expect nice Maple etc. Im sure its a fantastic guitar but, I like the ugly girls ones too :)
