Had a 30 minutes to spend at a local guitar shop today. Sometimes they have some cool vintage stuff, but mostly it is the usual merchandise. I recently bought my PRRI there. Very good guys many of whom have worked there for years.

I was mostly looking at acoustics today, but nothing really was happening there, so i wandered over to the amp section.

there was a 1964 Deluxe Reverb that had been cosmetically altered in a terrible way (black spray paint, gold trim knobs and a gold Fender badge), but otherwise seemed to be pretty much in original condition (save for a new speaker cable).

I grabbed a decent archtop, asked if i could fire it up and ...all i can say is ...

great story

...did you buy it? :D

No, thought about it, but it was out of my price range and it was hideous to look at. Spray painted black all over, aging gold misplaced metallics, looked like a bad 1978 cosmetic idea poorly executed. But man did it sound good. Very warm, sweet and delicious.

Brings that old saying to mind: you can't judge and amp by the botched and aging facelift someone tried to give it in the 70s.
