squawken Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 I bought an 88 140 a few months on the cheap. It has some wear, including the frets. I just got it back from having the frets dressed. It is like a brand new guitar! It is sooo playable. It almost feels like a shredder. The guy that worked on it saw the diamond in the rough too, as he said he immediately noticed the tone. I love the neck, and the Scahller pups that I have bashedin the past sound so much better with playable frets. I may have to start collecting 140's!!
Dick Seacup Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 I've had good luck buying "needs love" guitars and bringing them back to standards. I think that, for me anyway, it's good for the soul to make them functional and playable again instead of letting them languish. How about some pics?

jacques Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 I always wondered what the difference between the 140 and 150 actually are. Can you say something about that, Squawken?
squawken Posted September 5, 2008 Author Posted September 5, 2008 I always wondered what the difference between the 140 and 150 actually are. Can you say something about that, Squawken? I would say obviously, the 150 is heavier, and bigger. The neck on the 140 is more comfortable for me. It feels a little smaller. Despite being smaller, there is no lack of tone on the 140. It has SLIGHTLY less bottom end, but is not lacking in that department. Both have great sustain. The pups are different so it is hard to compare apples to oranges. The 140 has Schallers, the 150 has 59's. If I had to compare that I would say the 150 sounds more open. The 140 has more grit. But again, a lot of that is probably because of the pups. Both great guitars. Hope that helped Jacques! If not, let me know.
tulk1 Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 I sure wouldn't mind finding an H140 2nd Edition or whatever they called it. The one with the rounded horn. Honestly, that Florentine cut (is that the correct term?) kinda puts me off the traditional 140. But one with a rounded horn, belly carve - oh yeah!!! I'll put that one on the list right behind the Millie DC, the Prospect and the 525. All in OSB or AWB!! Ken - nice looking pair of guitars in that pic. And they do seem to get along sitting there together. Not like mixing skim milk and whole milk. ....
tulk1 Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 i love the Flourentine "sharp" cutaway I think it goes quite well with the hollows and semi's. It's just a personal thing with the solid bodies for me. Altho', if one were to fall in my lap, I wouldn't run away from it. ;D

tulk1 Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 Well, no kidding. If one with the sharp horn fell in your lap you'd be impaled, and unable to run at all! ;D Eow!!!! Which, of course, validates my take on the horn in the first place. Painfully, but validates all the same!! Could you imagine if the Blue Whale fell on you?
yoslate Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 Eow!!!! Could you imagine if the Blue Whale fell on you? I'd be hooked, and I don't mean that as a barb.... Wait...wait.... On the horns of a dilemma!!!! That's it! That's it! Why didn't I think of that when we were naming that thing??? The Heritage "Dilemma" Wow, this is great...I just love antihistamines!
Dick Seacup Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 ...I just love antihistamines! I resemble that remark. Tylenol Multi-Symptom Allergy/Sinus. Better than ludes and completely legal.
