SouthpawGuy Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 Looks like a VIP-2 to me. A Stat usually has 4 mini switches, HSS pickups plus a single volume and tone control. The VIP-2 has two volumes, two tones, selector switch, two humbuckers. The 3 mini switches are for the original single VIP wiring.

Oh, I thought the VIP-2 was just an electronics configuration, not an actual model name.
SouthpawGuy Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 Oh, I thought the VIP-2 was just an electronics configuration, not an actual model name. My '86 VIP-2. Two piece maple body, one piece mahogany neck. Mine is a set neck version, a VIP-2 Custom, at least that's what it says on the label
SouthpawGuy Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 As for the model name VIP-1 = one pickup, VIP-2 = two pickups, VIP = Var I Phase
tulk1 Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 Then it's a STAT since it's routed for 3 pickups!! Eh?
SouthpawGuy Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 Then it's a STAT since it's routed for 3 pickups!! Eh? Or a trem. Those are reeeeeal big single coil routes.
big bob Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 A stat is a set neck, that might be a VIP or a 162, both of which had bolt on necks.
DavesNotHere Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 It appears to me be a VIP-2. Upon closer inspection of the patina, the trained eye can determine that it has spent considerable time in the Netherlands.....
tulk1 Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 Or a trem. Those are reeeeeal big single coil routes. Eh ... what do I know? Nothing, I know NOTHING!!
mars_hall Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 I would say it definitely came from Holland. Our friend and member there, Jacques, swapped his body out and was offering up the old one. http://www.heritageownersclub.com/forums/gallery/album/77-vip2-88/
Trouble Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 Cool a new project to follow, as of right now I have no projects of my own. The band made me swear to stop until after we make a CD.
SouthpawGuy Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 ...... and ? Is there a neck somewhere to go with the body ?
Keith7940236 Posted August 23, 2013 Author Posted August 23, 2013 Kind of a neat story on how this is all coming together. You are right Mars, the body came from Jacques. The neck actually came from the Heritage factory. It is one that Marv found apparently it hasn't been touched since 1986 or so. Took a lot of oil to bring back the rosewood. Jacques and I have been working on a way to get the body here for around six or seven months. I'll tell the whole story when I get it all assembled and ready to play. Thanks for the fun guys, this is going to be great.
SouthpawGuy Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 A "build" thread would be very cool indeed.
