schundog Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 While touring the plant at PSP earlier this month (was that REALLY still just this month?! It feels like 6 months ago already...) Arnie was showing some of us how they install Truss Rods in the necks. I always wondered how they got them to turn in the neck slot freely. Wouldn't the glue used to attach the fretboard gum up the works? Not if you use the high tech tool used at The Heritage; drinking straws over the top of the truss rod! However, we ascertained that, for the best tone, they needed to be COLORED straws from Meier grocery stores.....
yoslate Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 Thus begins the great "They Didn't Do It That Way In '59 Tone Debate." Cool little expose, Brian. I'll spec all magenta on my next build.
SouthpawGuy Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 Cool pics, love those little details, thanks for posting

SouthpawGuy Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 Paul, talk to John.... Wouldn't George or Ringo do ?
Thundersteel Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 Colored truss rod condoms-what will they think of next? Ribbed?
Yooper Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 Ribbed? Of course. They use flexible straws. How else could the truss rod be so easily adjustable?
skydog52 Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 Colored truss rod condoms-what will they think of next? Ribbed? They are ribbed! For her pleasure.
yoslate Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 They are ribbed! For her pleasure. Boy...that didn't take long...!
davesultra Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 Boy...that didn't take long...! I guess I won't bother with some comment regarding a "reservoir tip".
y2kc Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 Arnie is a great teacher. Heritage has allowed us access and an inside view that is priceless. I saw those straws a few years ago and got a good chuckle. y2kc

Well, while pink and yellow are perfectly acceptable to the poser wanna’ be newbs, everyone in the know understands that blue and green or blue and blue provide superior tones. Solid green provides a bright woody tone and the blue provides a wooly undercurrent of womanly-scooped mids followed by a hint of lavender. Truly the Holy Grail Tone! Pink is too bright and reminiscent of Boss pedals and yellow screams mid 80s hair-metal. The color of the straws were the first item on my list of specifications for my new build. Oh wait a minute, sorry about that, I thought I was posting this to The Gear Page.

Guest HRB853370 Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 But if those colored straws were made in China, like most commodities, would that not raise the discussion that our Heritage guitars are NOT completely American?
