Heritage SG?

Does, or has The Heritage ever made an SG style guitar. I love SG's so I was just wondering. Couldn't find anything that suggested they had, but maybe someone can chime in and clear this up for me.

Nope and likely never will. This is one of those threads that come right behind the headstock and advertising questions. I did a CAD mockup of a Heritage SG-type a long time ago. I suppose it might be possible if you get your hands on a 140 neck and mate it to an SG body.

So ,,, how the firebird

My guess is Marv has something to do with the design... He may claim some ownership to it..

That's why I was wondering about the SG. I see the 535, the 140, the 575, the firebird, an they all look similar. Although much better, I would much rather own an equivalent Heritage that it's "G" cousin. That's why I ask.

Whenever I brought up the SG idea with the factory guys, they told me all about how the SG design is inherently flawed due to the neck joint. The closest that they have to an SG is the 170.

As for me, I've always liked SG's. I recently found a roadworn 2000 SG Special with an ebony fretboard that had a nice chunky neck. I picked it up from GC for a song.

Yea, I think that is what draws me to the 170's with the pointed cutaways. If I could have afforded another Heritage, I would have loved to have the one you offered PunkKitty! I love the neck joint on my SG, joins at the 22nd fret, definitely am careful though... VERY careful! I think that when the time is right, thats what I would custom order (probably in VSB, or a Faded Lemon Burst). Pretty sick, already dreaming of my custom order Heritage. Only been a month on here. =)

Heritages are addicting. I bought and resold several until I found the three I have. Now I'm not letting them go.

well I think the 137 probably fits the bill nicely enough...a slab of mahogany with a set-neck & pickups

pretty much the same thing aside from cosmetics? and a better strap position, on the horn

-->Beagle that's a great quote!!

Thanks! He's one of my favorites, and a huge influence for me. This quote pretty much is classic Neil and summarizes my thoughts of most of today's mainstream music. Still a lot of good musicians out there, but they never reach the masses. I still close my eyes and dance with the beat at concerts and at home with albums, people look at me like I'm the crazy one, but I just feel sorry for them. Music is meant to be felt inside of you. The majority of people have lost sight of that!

That is annoying with the strap position on my SG... Haha. I will look into the 137's... never seen them before. Sounds right up my alley, can they make them fancy inlays, bound headstock, etc. if you custom order it?

I would have picked the H137 Double Cut as being closest to a SG due to the body being Mahogany only without a maple top of any kind and a double cutaway.

I realize that the picture on the web site shows P90's installed but I think that could just as easily be humbuckers, and I don't think there would be much of a difference between a a bridge which had a tailpiece or one without a tailpiece.

Some guy at PSP6 wanted Marv to make a 357 with a 3x3 headstock and SG style wings. Don't know if they will build it. Not my story to tell. The mock up looked very cool.

When I was talking to Jim at PSP about my Guild S100, that was one of the first things he mentioned about the Guild model. It doesn't have the flawed neck joint of the Gibson. He said there were times when the neck would just pop on guitars coming off the line. That's scary!

That's where I remember that from. I was there for that conversation.

YES!!!! That's amazing. I love that. That's most likely it when it comes to custom order time. Different finish but basically that!

I'm the guy who suggested the 357 with SG spruce wings. The neck through design would eliminate the problems with the SG neck attachment. Marv said he always hated sanding the SG bevels.

We wait, we'll see, not holding breath. Marvs rules.

I'd like a 357 style neck-through with Flying V wings, and a regular Heritage headstock is fine with me.

I think that also has a lot to do with the short tenon.... If a long tenon was used, I wonder if it would still be a problem? I have never heard anyone complain about SG's with necks popping off. The old ES330's perhaps, but not the SG...

My SG was made with a long tennon one piece neck and one piece body, granted its a custom shop, but mine feels very solid... I am still careful though.

The first generation SGs, when they first came out from Gibson, the neck joined the body WAY down toward the body. And, yes, they had BIG problems with neck stability. The neck generation of SGs joined the body higher up, and were more stable. The collectible SGs are the early first generation ones, but neck stability is an issue and this is why the reissued SGs are like the second generation ones.
