Prospect Standard in the House !!!

I seem to have struck it lucky lately with a string of used but dead MINT guitars on Ebay and Craigslist. ( Thanks Brent  )

This is my latest Heritage, a 2001 Prospect Standard in Antique sunburst. I bought it from a gal in Colorado in a place called Niwot near Boulder.

Niwot is named after an Arapaho Chief and it means "left-handed", I kid you not ! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Niwot,_Colorado

Thanks also to cod65 for the original heads up on this one  :icon_thumleft:

It came with Schallers fitted but it has been rewired with Seth Lovers, by a Heritage guy no less !

I haven't had much chance to play it yet but I have tried it through my Blues Jnr and the clean tones are superb. The Seths do have a looser more open sound to them than the '59s. The body size is very comfotable indeed and the action is extremely low. I might actually need to raise it a bit as I tend to bend strings a lot and also use my thumb and fingers to slap and pull the strings.

Now for the pics ...

i really wanted to play that one....but trying to switch to lefty is almost impossible!!! ;D

i'm glad it got there safe!

I forgot to mention that the neck profile on the Prospect is different to all of my other Heritages. It is smaller and less chunky than the 535 but bigger than the 575, it also feels less deep ( if that's a proper term, but you get the picture) than the Millennium.

Go figure.

Very, Very, nice!

Bet some Peter Green licks would sound good out of that plank! 8) :afro:

SPG, that is just stunning! And no, I'm not the least bit jealous. Not one bit! I did get to play Curly's "Blues" at the PSPx1. Very comfortable guitar. Thought the same about the neck - not as fat as the 535. (Don't have a 575 for reference), tho' I personally couldn't use one any thinner, that is for sure.

Gonna need some clips of that bad boy when you get time. Or make time!

Yeah, one of them has gotsta be on the list, now!

Very Cool!

Alicia enjoyed checking it out; she really thought it was a great guitar.

Thanks guys, I'm still grinning from ear to ear playing this one !

At the moment I'm plugged into the Cyber Twin and those Seths certainly do squeal on the really high gain patches, it's not a problem though as I certainly didn't get a Prospect for Van Halen covers ! It is a surprisingly good shred guitar but the clean tones are where it's at for me. I feel at home on this guitar already and I only have it since Friday, that's always a good sign.

Next is to compare it to the 535 with '59s and the Millennium with the HRWs .... I'm like a pig in muck with all these lovely Heritages  ;D ;D

Jim W, it was nice of Alicia to check it out for me, those lefty picks are a great idea, shame the righties can't hold 'em right  ;D

Couple of random observations:

Kenny, congrats on your 1000th post!  Just noticed you'd hit it.

S.P. Guy, I must remark that your eye for Heritage guitars, and your penchant for snappin' them up is remarkable!  Great looking collection, not to mention some of the other non-Heritages you own.  Very, very eclectic.  Congrats!

Thanks Rob. Your milestone sorta passed without much fanfare, as well.

'slate, I have been extremely lucky as 3 of the Heritages are used but all are in mint condition. Obviously someone who buys one of these guitars appreciates the quality of the instrument and looks after them accordingly, well that's my theory anyway !

As for my recent ginormous attack of GAS you ain't seen nothin' yet, literally ! I'm embarrassed to say how many I got lately but it's more than 1 or 2, I just couldn't let the opportunities go by as they were all mint and priced to sell quickly. The used lefty market is very much a buyers market.  As I've mentioned before Heritage and G&L are non existent in Ireland, and that's in right handed, in left hand forget about it, not a chance !

I will post pics when I get the chance to take some.

Hey SouthPaw. Congrats on the Prospect. Nice to finally see some good pictures of it. I can see where the term "Tiger Maple" comes from. Makes me wonder what else you've been up to. I'm also wondering if it has the "floating center block", if I got the term right. I once went "prospecting" up "Left Hand Canyon", somewhere near Niwot. Didn't do as well as you, but then again, I'm right handed!

Congratulations SPG with your fourth piece of art & craftmanship! I still remember you complaining about the Heritage situation in Ireland and being a leftie doesn't make things easier either. But now you're almost there and all you need is a 150 to make things complete. (you DO need one of those, they are really a different beast all together). Turns out you've become a smart overseas importer! May I ask about the total costs, including the Prospect, in euros?

Second question is more or less an order: post your pics on our Photobucket pages!

Hi AnH555,

I had a good look inside the f-holes on the Prospect and the block is not attached to the back of the guitar, well I actually compared the 535 to the Prospect and the 535 seems to have a shim of wood underneath the center block attacing it to the back of the instrument and the Prospect does not. I didn't have it cranked up so I can't tell how much that affects the tone or feedback etc.

What I can say is that the neck is way smaller than the 535, it would really suit someone with smaller hands very well. I have no problem with the small neck as I'm well used to that on the Music Man Silhouette.

I just did a "shoot out" between the 535 ( '59s), the Bluesboy ( neck Seth Lover) and the Prospect ( Seths). The brightest of the three is the Bluesboy, the darkest is the 535 and the Prospect is right in the middle. The clean tones from the Seths are exceptional.

I was originally going to get the Duncan P-Rails in the Prospect, with all of the wiring options, but I was advised / persuaded otherwise by Brent who has or had them in one of his guitars. I definitely made the right choice with the Seths in this guitar.

I know my preference would be for that semi-semi-hollow type, seems like a Heritage exclusive feature. And since I'm no pickup expert,  I've become convinced that Seth Lovers would be the best choice for me in my next Heritage, since I already have HRW's. Perhaps in a Millenium....Well, for now I'll just have to get by with my screaming maple 555. Somebody should really do him/herself a favor and grab that one from Slider before he comes to his senses!

Hey SouthpawGuy!

That guitar is "all that and a bag of chips"    ;D

Stunning wood and great feeling neck. Oh Yeah! I am glad to hear you received it and are enjoying it.

One of these days we have to meet and run through the collection together. Good Fun!

Yes, those are special lefty picks  ;D
