Would you spend this much on reverb cables?

It's hilarious that anybody would take the time to create such absurdity. I appreciate the humor! :)

Ahh yes, another fine example of snakeoil at it's finest!

I've tried fancy smancy reverb cables, and I've tried dirt cheap reverb cables; the cheap ones always perform just as well, and in some cases they've actually worked better (had one fancy smancy set that wasn't worth the garbage bag they were tossed into).

OK, I don't need satellite grade cable for connecting up my reverb - but I do like the look of those cables :)

So I made some of my own! Two metres of vintage look Sommer cable and four Switchcraft RCA jacks. Less than £20 worth of parts.

Preparing the cable:

All done! :)

And they sound great :)

H - Love your mug shots! I bet your iron has been feeling neglected recently.

Yeah, absolutely! :) I wish someone over here in the UK would ask me to build an amp for them - I'd love to build another Vibrolux or something similar!

I remember reading that about 10 years ago Quad arrived at a hifi show with all their equipment but no speaker cables. One of the team was sent out to buy some more. This was the report form New Scientist magazine...

One of the most popular demonstrations at the show was staged by British company Quad, to mark 50 years of making its world-famous hi-fi equipment. Recording engineer Tony Faulkner demonstrated Quad's latest loudspeakers. He explained how he used them to monitor the sound while making a recording of Saint-Saëns's complete works for piano and orchestra, which recently won the coveted Record of the Year award from Gramophone magazine.

As hi-fi buffs enthused over the sound, we spotted that the speakers were connected by some orange wires that looked strangely familiar.

"Yes, they would look familiar if you have a garden", Faulkner told us. "Before the show opened we went over the road to the DIY superstore and bought one of those £20 extension leads that Black & Decker sells for electric hedge-cutters. They are made from good, thick copper wire, look nice and sound good to me. The show's been running for three days and no one in the audience has noticed".

Not that Wikipedia is always right, but interesting, in article on "oxygen-free copper:"

Use in home audio

The high-end speaker wire industry markets oxygen-free copper as having enhanced conductivity or other electrical properties that are significantly advantageous to audio signal transmission. However, conductivity specifications for common C11000 Electrolytic-Tough-Pitch (ETP) and higher-cost C10200 Oxygen-Free (OF) coppers are identical.[8] Much more expensive C10100, a highly refined copper with silver impurities removed and oxygen reduced to 0.0005%, has only a one percent increase in conductivity rating, insignificant in audio applications.[8] OFC is nevertheless valued by some[who?] for both audio and video signals in audio playback systems and home cinema.[8]

When are those scientists going to learn, like the general public believes, that there is more money in mojo?

(...and humbling to think of how many of my own consumer choices are based on some sort of mojo.)

Well, it's a loose leaf blend we get from a local deli - a mix of Assam, Darjeeling and some others. I'm quite partial to PG Tips at work :)

Can't post a YouTube link from my phone for some reason :-/ I was trying to post one of those 1970s PG Tips chimp adverts - the one with the piano....

Yeah, they were classic ads for sure. I'm on a tablet thingy and also can't post vids for some reason. Will post one later on, while I'm having a cup of tea :)

Yup, I always chuckle when I see that stuff. I once had a guy in a Home Entertainment store try to get me to buy special cables for a DVD player. His claim was that they were optimized for video. I told him they should be optimized for electrons and the electrons had no notion of whether they were audio or video. He looked confused.

The CEO of Monster Cable is a millionaire for selling "mojo." Yup, people are gullible!

Next, they'll have the reversed version for lefties...

Can't imagine how much a lefty one would cost. As it is a monster cable over here is 100 euro, maybe $120 or more. A lefty a$$-to-rope would be out of my league entirely :)

Yeah !! Next they'll come out with a special cable just for acoustic guitars and another one for solid body guitars and one for semi-hollow body guitars. And people will buy them Unbelievable how people are to trusting and gullible. Sorry folks, wire is wire is wire.

Interesting! The QSC engineers say that when running XLRs to their powered speakers to not be fooled by the wire. Wire is wire. It's the connectors to worry about. And most of those are fine, too.
