vmeyer Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 Am close to pulling the trigger on one and wonder if anyone here has played one. Looks like exactly what I am looking for! The seller is Green Oak Guitar and the link is here: http://www.gbase.com/gear/heritage-h-525-eagle-custom-2012-custom Any advice would be appreciated!
vmeyer Posted September 13, 2013 Author Posted September 13, 2013 Forgot a key bit of info....looking for a smaller HB with p90's to do jazz and blues.
TalismanRich Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 The 525 certainly can do blues and jazz. Just by looking at the headstock, I'm guessing that was once one of Skydog's, I think he used to have the mushroom truss rod cover. (anyone remember for sure?) The bound headstock, block inlays and the eagle are not normally found on a 525. Its definitely an upgraded model. There are several members with 525s. Mine is natural.
Number8 Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 I think you're right. I also believe Brent once owned and sold it.
Genericmusic Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 Pull the trigger and don't flinch. It is a nice one.
Spectrum13 Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 Not trying to raise any flags but.. Eagle headstock with blocks and an "H" tail piece turns into dots and the stock traptail. I has some wine with dinner but still...
Kuz Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 Not trying to raise any flags but.. Eagle headstock with blocks and an "H" tail piece turns into dots and the stock traptail. I has some wine with dinner but still... It's the wine !!! The first pic Rich shared is of the 525 for sale, the second pic is of his 525 (which I am sure is going no where..... but used to be Lyle's..... and before Lyle it used to be mine..... Confused yet?!!! LOL)
vmeyer Posted September 14, 2013 Author Posted September 14, 2013 Okay.....thanks....but just want to make sure it is a good one...and toneful! I had a 535 (same one twice)...didn't do it.... For the bucks...want to make sure this is a good one...so if you owned it...HELP! You guys kill me.... FOR FUN...what are your favorite Heritage Gits for jazz and blues...that you can stand playing for a couple of hours?!?!?!?!?
Kuz Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 I owned the Natural 525 (pictured) and played the one for sale. Here is my honest review (which may not be shared by all). -They both were/are INCREDIBLE guitars, but my preference is for the older (first generation) 525s with the TOM bridge on top of the Baseplate (like on the natural 525) verses the way they make the 525s now with the TOM bridge mounted straight into the top of the body. I think the TOM-Baseplate 1st Generation 525s offer a woodier, jazzier tone. The 525s with the TOM straight on the top of the guitar have more of very very very slightly diminished acoustic tone and are better suited for overdrive & blues tones. Just my opinion. The TOM-Baseplate 1st Generation 525s are near impossible to find used. The 2nd Generation TOM on the top 525s are hard to find used as well. If you want to custom order a new Heritage 525, I am almost 100% certain they will make either style 525 for you.

That is very interesting thanks John. I learn something new every time I log on to HOC.
TalismanRich Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 Here's one of the full shots. You can see the difference that Kuz was speaking about with the bridge. I've never played one with this setup. I just know that when I played the natural one a year ago, it was outstanding. That's why I jumped at the chance to grab it.
Gitfiddler Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 Forgot a key bit of info....looking for a smaller HB with p90's to do jazz and blues. Based on the above preference, I think the TOM bridge 525 that you are considering will suit your needs just fine. My 525 is set up similar to that gorgeous Eagle inlayed beauty. I've not seen one prettier either. Go for it.

SouthpawGuy Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 Pictures or it don't mean squat! So very true ! .
Gitfiddler Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 That is gorgeous! Thanks. So is the one you are after! As you can see it has the TOM setup. The reason I requested that as part of the 'wish list' custom order, was for more tonal flexibility. I already get the phat jazz tones from my archtops (with wooden bridge), but this was to be a special, multi-purpose guitar. It gets every tone from Grant Green, BB, Benson to Burrell!
vmeyer Posted September 14, 2013 Author Posted September 14, 2013 Just posted another 525 option on the classified page (by mistake...should be here). Has a Bigsby and is $300 less on asking price. Not sure I like the Bigsby option...what is your advice folks? Here is the listing from Ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Used-Heritage-H525-Hollowbody-Electric-Guitar-with-Bigsby-Tremolo-/221278515155?pt=Guitar&hash=item33853a2fd3
